North to Alaska
I just talked to my dad and he told me that for my college graduation we are going to Alaska for 11 days :D:D:D:D. We aren't going until June, but this is something I've wanted to do my whole life I'm so pumped! We are going to be doing a lot of fly fishing and I would like to do some bowhunting, but I'm unaware of the seasons up there. Anyone know if there are any hunting opportunities that time of year? Thanks for letting me share.

RE: North to Alaska
I went 11 years ago and had a blast. My wife has a family up there and a few cabins around the state. You can go to the official web site for Alaska and find out what is in season. Be prepared to pay some money for license and tags because they are proud of their animals. If I were you, I would bring a GPS with you. If you walk into the woods you will quickly discover the last 50 yards looks likewhere your currently standing. It's very tough to back track the same way you came in.
I wish you luck and wish I was going with you. |
RE: North to Alaska
I took a cruise up there this past summer and IT WAS AWESOME. Alaska is one of the most awesomest (:D) places in the world. The country is just breathtaking. You will have so much fun there.
One thing though, I'm pretty sure if you hunt bear, you need to have a guide, so if that is truly what you are going to do, I would start looking into that stuff now. |
RE: North to Alaska
I used to live up there but never did any hunting, always fishing. I was too young then and now when I go up and visit my dad it is usually in the fishing season so that is what I go and do. Your gonna love the fishing if you get to the right spot and the salmon are running. The trout are fantastic too in places if that is what you seek. Hope you can find a spot to fish that isn't over run with people, it is very busy there at that time of year. Combat fishing I call it but with a father who lives there we always find a spot that isn't so bad and hook into some nice fish. June should bring you some kings and reds and some nice rainbow!!! Good luck to you and I hope you get to take the bow out, with the awsome fishing it would be hard for me knowing I would get to bowhunt later!!!! Have Fun!!!!

RE: North to Alaska
Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate the help. I have begun investigating guides and tags and all that good stuff. I'm not too worried about the cost, I figure if I'm gonna do it then I might as well do it big. Thanks again and feel free to PM me with suggestions.
