Early Scrape

I found what I believe to be a scrape yesturday. Is it too early. It had the over hanging licking branch and had hoove prints in it. It is also on a deer trail. Could it be a scrape?

Yes, it was a scrape. I have found scrapes in the first week of September as well.

Alot of folks have been reporting scrapes already this year. I have found one or two in September in the past but never with any great frequency.

Found a Scrape Line today 9-10,no kidding. 5 or 6scrapes on an old brushogged roadway. Some had the licking branches worked, a couple rubs were nearby. The scrapes were'nt real serious - but no doubt what they were.

I put the camera (cuddeback) on the best one (was a good scrape last year too), and dripped some doe estrous scent in the licking branch and scrape.

It will be interesting to see what I get.

I have found 1 scrape thus far, I made 3 other mock scrapes near the area to see if I can draw a big boy in there.

from the size of that rub I would say he isnt a very big one.The old one from last year might be a good buck but the newer one still seems kinda small.

Yup, I found the first of the year just yesterday. And guess what, that ohh soo wonderful deer decided to make it 20 yds from my stand right in the middle of one of my shooting lanes.:D

Well I went back out today with my stealth cam to set it up on that scrape I found. But I couldn't find it. When I found it I was kinda lost but quickly found my way around. I was looking for it when I found another.I set the cam up on it and will return to it on thurs when I go squirrel hunting. Hope to see a buck on it.

SPIKEHORN11-

Good luck getting a couple pictures - Those first scrapes are usually visited by ALL the local bucks.

Remember I put the camera on a scrape Yesterday? - Well I pulled the card today - and had a few pics of bucks working the scrape - and especially the licking branch last night. I'll probably leave the camera here the next 2 weeks.

FH

Bucks will occaisionally work old scrapes all summer - but not usually often enough to justify putting a camera on it.

Right now -most areas are entering that stage of Yearling Buck Dispersal -an new young bucks should start showing up every week - when the velvet comes off!

Good luck - post your pics.

I believe scrapes happen year around. More often during the rut to claim territory! I have a mock scrape that I made very early on LAST year that has been hit and hit again all year!

Scrapes happen year around as was mentioned above but really kick in at this time of year. I have pics from year around scrape use, both real and mock.
