Morning Or Evening

Just curious as to when everyone preferes to hunt.
I understand there are different circumstances for certain stands and areas. But is it morning or evening(late afternoon)

Personally I like to hunt in the morning. This way I have the choice to stay all day if desired. There is also something about getting in a stand 1 hour before light and watching the sun come up over the horizon. All the animals in the woods comes to life, deer are moving, squirrels are chirping and so on.I think it is so peacful,I wish it would just stay like that.

Anytime in the woods I love but I prefer evening before the clocks get turned back. It gives me more time in the woods. Then the mornings after the clocks get turned back because I can get more time in the woods before going to work.

Although Jason I have my best luck during the evening hunt's ,I prefer to get up at 5:00 am and get into my stand ,I feel as you do watching the day break and listening to the bush come alive is a great way to starting the day off .

I like evenings until the rut kicks in. I hunt food sources, which is a predictable area for evening patterns, the deer will always enter the field just before dark. As soon as the Rut nears I like mornings and afternoons, I see more Rutting activity in the mornings, and the afternoons everyone around here goes in, and that big buck just might walk right past my stand!

I seem to have most of my good fortune in the early morning...........however I like the evenings better because the anticipation builds and builds the longer I am in my stand.......in the evenings I look forward to every coming minute as it gets closer and closer to "showtime"........in the mornings every minute that goes by takes me farther away from primetime.

Anytime in the woods is fine with me.

Personally I love nothing more then an early morning hunt in the snow.........the woods shine like a diamond when the sun cracks over the hills and begins to warm your face.

That is my favorite time of the year.

Fpr the ost art I like evenings the most. But I have a few morning only spots.I guess it just really depends on what property I am hunting. My best spots are mainly evenings.I do have a favorite spot that I can hunt both.During the rut it is best to sit all day.I make sure I take something to read though.

I like the mornings best, nothing like that awesome sunrise with your breath goin' up like smoke. Althought I like the mornings best, I've killed a lot more deer in the evenings.

My favorite time is from 3:00 until dark. In the area I hunt this is prime time.

I am a morning person as well..both personally and from a bowhunting standpoint. Most folks seem to prefer evenings but one of the big reasons I prefer mornings it the opportunity to track in full daylight.

Tracking in good light?- good point.

I prefer mornings because it's usually the only time I might possibly make it up the tree w/out sweating my arse off. Heck half of October that isn't even a sure deal.
Without a cool front in East Texas you can forget sweat free evening hunt in October. (that's whenI hunt the one time shot/ not honey hole locations)

Definitly the mornings. I love being 20 feet up before dark in the morning and watch the day start. Theres no better time IMHO. Also the thermals are usually rising in the mornings so I dont get busted as much.

Tough question. If I HAD to choose, I would say evening.

I like evenings too. Biggest reason is probably because I hunt out of a climber almost exclusively. I'd rather get set up in the light than in the dark.

I would have to say evenings. I have had most of my luck in the evenings. Just
something about those last 30 minutes before dark and you just know something
is about to happen. But of course I will be out there early opening morning
too!!!:D

All day for me...except for a short lunch break.

My favorite is EARLY morning..especially in mid-November. The Leonid meteor shower peaks at this time. Quite a show to say the least. This year get out early Nov 14-Nov 21..with the peak being the 17th. Last year it was crazy at 4am in my neck of the woods.

that's a tough one. i'm not real fond of setting up my climber in the dark, but then again packing up in the dark isn't much better. i'm about equal with morning or evening success, just being in different places at different times. mornings give you a lot more options for the hunt and the opportunity to change it up if you get bored with it and there's no action -stand, stalk, sleep, lol...doesn't seem to be as many annoying bugs in the early morning as the afternoon/evening either. but i love to hunt both, sometimes dark to dark. anytime in the woods is a good time in my book.

I prefer both. Like you, I enjoy getting out there, in the stand, settled in and watching the stars fade, horizon light up, listen for foxes and deer walk in the distance without seeing them, seeing the woods light up and come to life. Plus, I get more done in the morning before 9AM and home without the wife complaining too much. I usually have decent luck during shotgun season hunting in the morning and better luck during bow in the afternoon. But, I like the morning the best for what I stated above and that it's easier to track knwoing you have lots of daylight instead of worrying aout tracking late in the day as daylight fades.

I am with Illinois Bowhuntin. I prefer the afternoons and my best spots are afternoon spots but once the rut kicks in I usually hunt all day long. I have killed several deer in the morning s but it's usaully later in the morning but all in all I prefer the evening hunt.

during the first 2 weeks I like the evenings better, then when October comes around I like to hunt from 1/2 before sunrise to 1/2 after sunset

The best time to hunt for older mature deer is from 10am-2pm. Living on a farm and working the fields all day I see the most deer activity in the middle of the day. The reason for this is primarily that the older deer have caught on to hunters morning and evening patterns. I always see them grazing around lunch time. Alot of people think the biggest bucks are strictly nocturnal, but they also move midday when those hunters arent in the woods. I've seen many P&Y bucks this time of day run across the road too.
