Scent Killer Question

Okay..Last year I made the homemade scent killer. I used the industrial-strength Hydrogen Peroxoide (FYI.....DILUTE THAT CRAP! It BURNS!) and have kept it in an opaque container all year long.

My question is...does it go bad?? Can I use what is left over from last year, or should I make a new batch?

Thanks!

Don't know hunter, I just got done mixing my first batch, I am going to keep it in a dark closet in my garage and only fill up the spray bottle I’m using each day.....did you use the baking soda, HS soap, 3% peroxide, distilled water formula? And how well do you think it worked for you last year?

RE: Scent Killer Question

I cannot really see how it would but I could be wrong. Considering the cost though it might just be better overall to replace it.

RE: Scent Killer Question

I whipped up a batch for the 03/04 season and used it last year 04/05 and it worked just like it did the first year so I would say yes, IT CAN BE USED FOR CONSECUTIVE YEARS, as long as you kept it well sealed in the off time.... as for its effectiveness... AWESOME... had deer all around my stand on my trails and never even flinch.... "Ghost Juice" tm ...Don't leave your truck without it!!

RE: Scent Killer Question

PSEBO....not really sure how well it worked last year...didn't get much of a chance to hunt - and didn't get any deers!

I did use what seems to be emerging as the "standard" recipe...distilled water, HS shampoo/soap (the green stuff), baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide (the high-test stuff from the pool store...again, DILUTE it thoroughly or it will BURN!).

I think it was pretty well contained since last season...it still looks the same and has that same sort "no" smell...
I agree, though, that its pretty cheap stuff...and I have some of that liquid fire left over, so maybe I'll make up another batch!

Thanks everyone!

RE: Scent Killer Question

Thanks all, good info.....has anyone ever cut up and tossed in an earth scent disk into the mix to give it a "natural" cover scent as well, or does the formula eliminate this scent as well, making it a waste of a perfectly good disk?:)

Can anyone give me the exact recipe on that? I tried one of the other ones posted in here, and it didn't exactly turn out right. I just need some amounts to go along with the ingredients. Thanks

RE: Scent Killer Question

Chief,

1 gal distilled water
16 oz 3% peroxide
1/2 box baking soda
2 shot glasses of HS soap

this will be my first year trying it, so I can't say from experience how well it works, but I have done extensive internet research on it and every one says it works and you can't beat the price.

NOTE: I got creative and cut up an earth scent disk and toss it in the container for cover, once again...we'll see!:)

Thanks PSEBO, I hated to step on his thread like that, but I was very interested in how to make it. Thanks again.
