MI. YOUNG HUNTERS HUNT ????????
 

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?????

THIS WEEKEND IS THE SECOND YEAR FOR THE YOUNG HUNTERS HUNT. 14 YEARS OLD FOR ARCHERS, 15 AND 16 YEARS OLD FOR GUN HUNTERS. THIS IS A HUNT ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR THE YOUNG HUNTERS TO GET FIRST CRACK AT THE WHITETAIL. REGULAR BOW SEASON OPENS ON THE FIRST OF OCT. THIS HUNT WAS DESIGNED TO GET YOUNGSTERS OUT IN THE WOODS WITH THERE PARENT AND HOPEFULLY GET THERE FIRST DEER.

I PERSONALLY THINK THAT ALL STATES SHOULD DO THIS. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO GET YOUNG PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS GREAT OUTDOOR ACTIVITY. I OPENED MY LAND TO ANY YOUNG HUNTER AND THERE PARENT WHO WANTED TO HUNT. AS A MATTER OF FACT I ALLOWED THEM TO USE MY STANDS AND BLINDS. WELL THE HARVEST WAS GREAT OUT OF 4 HUNTERS 2 DEER WERE TAKEN. BOTH DOES.

2 OF MY FELLOW HUNTERS CALLED ME CRAZY TO OPEN MY LAND FOR THIS EVENT. BOTH OF THEM SAID THIS HUNT WOULD MESS EVERYTHING UP FOR ME. "WHAT IF THEY GET THE BIG ONE" ONE SAID.

WHAT I SAY IS WHO CARES. IF WE AS HUNTERS ALL DID OUR PARTS TO PASS ALONG THIS SPORT TO THE YOUNGSTERS WE WOULD ALL BE BETTER OFF. AN IF IT GIVES A FATHER AND SON SOME BONDING TIME TOGETHER IN THE WOODS THEN SO BE IT.

I agree, a youth season is GREAT! I sometimes sit in our family room and stare at the beautiful buck my oldest son shot during an Iowa youth season a few years back. After spending a total of six years being the adult with my sons while they hunted, I'm a believer that hunting is not a spectator sport.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Both of my boys are hooked on hunting now. chef#1 i got a six point this year in the youth hunt in michigan. It has actually been going on for three years. 12 through 16 year olds. 12-13 is bow and 14-16 is gun or bow. I got my first buck last year during this season. I think this is a great chance for begginers like me to get deer. I know three of my friends got there first buck in this season and probably wouldn't have gotten anything if there wasn't this season. I also think they should have this in everystate.

Probably biggest thrill of my hunting career was being with my son and his first buck harvest during Ky's youth weekend(Middle of Oct before any other firearms). Youth get first shot at most WMA hunts during this weekend too(ones that adults wait years to get drawn).No doubt the best thing Ky has ever done for its fish and wildlife future.

I also like the idea parents need to take there kids out and teach them about nature. My son and I fish together and I have taken him in the field since he was about 8 and the bonding is worth every second of time spent. Some of the stories we can tell are great and now at 29 years of age we still go hunting every chance we get. even now we are making more stories. Last season it was a missfire on his frontloader I heard the pop from over 100 yds and knew right away what had happened. Later as we wee leaving the woods it was quit a discusion on why that happened we found out later the caps were bad. but it is just great to have those times toghther and have all those memories My son is a great young man and I am very nproud of him. That is what taking kids hunting and in the outdoors has done for me.
