How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
I was out practicing today and thought I would see how long I could hold and still hit a 1" target dot at 20 yards. After 1 minute my forearm was starting to burn so I took the shot and hit it. I would say I held it for about 70 seconds. The whole time I was trying to stay pretty much on target. It was a lot harder than I thought.
How many practice this? Being honest, how long can you hold your bow at full draw and still hit a bullseye at 20 yards? Just being curious. |
RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
Ive never timed myself, but I know that when I practice, if I dont feel right within the first few seconds, I drop and recompose myself. I SHOULD practice holding full draw.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
I practice this, and for me I can only hold full draw about 2 minutes,, at 60# and 65% let off, but as soon as I don't feel comfy I let off and regroup,,

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
the longesti have ever tried and counting in my head is like 55 secs. #67 draw.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
3 and 1/2 hours give or take a couple minutes.[:@]:D
No, probably a little over a minute. Never really counted though. |
RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
i've never really thought about it. . . i would think pretty close to a minute or so. probably a little less.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
Like I said, I was just curious. How many times has an animal not cooperated when you were at full draw? Sometimes you have to let down and then you don't get a second chance. [&:] I think I will start practicing this and try to reach 2 minutes while still being accurate. Just in case I need to. The problem I have around my area is that there are so many deer, mainly does, so there are a lot of eyes looking for hunters. Drawing becomes a real challenge sometimes. Right now I am pulling 67# but I might drop it if I can't hold it for long. I know that I should let it down and then draw again. I will do that if everything is right but if not, I would like to know that I can hold my bow at full draw for a while.

Maybe a minute at my 62 pounds.Probably should do better.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
Just timed myself.
1 Minute - Still fine, no shaking, no burning 1 Minute 30 Seconds - Starting to feel the burn in forearm and release shoulder 1 Minute 45 Seconds - Still feeling the burn, starting to shake 2 Minutes 3 Seconds- Let down I could have held longer if I absolutely had to. Mind you this is while holding on a target at 20 yards. 62lbs, 65% letoff. |
RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
tried this myself tonight, but i have done it many times, but never timed myself. what i usually do is take my practice shots, usually between 20-30, and then i take my last shot and try to hold it for an extended period of time, somewhere over a minute. I have never actually timed myself before, but tonight i timed myself and could hold it for about 1 min. and 30-40 seconds before i felt that i should take a shot. I am pulling 82lbs, with 65% letoff. I did it twice in a row, with about the same results, so im pretty sure about 2 minutes would be my limit.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
I havent done it, but i imagine 70 lbs @80% letoff i could go a few minutes.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
I'll try it this weekend. My guess is several minutes.
|
RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
Truth be told I haven't tried it in some time. I am sure I could probably hold my hunting bow at full draw for close to a minute but how accurate I was afterwards is not something I think I could comment on without trying again.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
With a 50 pound stickbow, I can hold 10-12 seconds before I start shaking.
My record with a high letoff compound was 6 min 27 secs. Didn't get tired or anything, just got bored and wanted to get on with my life.;) |

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
I was Bowhunting hogs in June by a feeder & came to full draw on one that kept scurring around not letting me get a standing shot-I was at full draw & knew if I let down the pig would be long gone. I was right at my holding limit (for accuracy) & about to let down when I was presented a shot at 12 yards.
I video everything & as I was editing I timed it thinking I had to have held for about 2 min.It was57 seconds, 60#, 65% lt off. Now I am nearly 64 years old & remember in my Tourny days holding forever until that pin was dead on the X with a 50#, 20% letoff and a 48# no letoff stick bow. Oh, the hog went about 60 yards. |

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
TENminutes or longer if I really had to....NO joke all it takes is proper breathing exercises and isometric exercises...Try getting on the floor in the push up position...go down to the floor, push yourself back up and freeze right there. We call it locking out. Sure the first couple of times youll shake like a Bellydancer... but with commitment and time ...It will be quite easy. To be a good hunter ...you should be in half decent shape YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN , IN THE FIELD, YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT!!!!!!!AND I shoot an old... MARTIN LYNX MAGNUM... not that high tech expensive stuff there is out there today..Technology will or has made us a bit lazy/laxed. I mean no disrespect here, Im just making sense out of the nonsense!!

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
I shot a doe on film last year and just as I came to full draw the doe turned and headed slowly straight at me so I could not shoot or let down. I finally shot her at 6 or 7 yards when she finally turned. When I got back to camp, I told everybody that I held my 65 pound 50% let off bow at full draw for at least 5 minutes. Everybody was laughing and saying no way! you could not have held over a minute or two. So we watched the footage and turned on the timer. It was a little over 3 minutes. It sure seemed like it was over 5 minutes!!!! Anyway, I have found if you take your arm that you pull the string back with and lay your elbow against your bellie and lock it in that position you can hold for quite a while without alot of discomfort.

RE: How Long Can You Hold At full Draw?
