South Africa

I will be in South Africa for work the first 2 weeks of November. I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with hunting over there. Any do or don'ts I need to worry about. I have an outfitter I have been speaking with for a month or so. He is located in Namibia near Windhoek. I am looking into bowhunting Kudu, Oryx, Wildebeest and Heartbeest! Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I'm sure the guids will tell you this but shoot em on the shoulder, the vitals on the animals over there seem to be farther forward than our game. When I was there they were adamant that we not try to hit anything behind the shoulder. Spend some time looking at SCI records or other places that list the sizes of the game. You need to know what is considered a good animal. Example, I almost had to take my brother's bow away to keep him from shooting a waterbuck with 8 inch antlers, the thing was a baby and he had no idea. Take a lot of extra broadheads, blades and arrows. Take a book to read in the blind, there could be long periods with no animals and it helps to pass the time.

So are you going to South Africa or Namibia? For shot advise, I'd suggest an investment in "The Perfect Shot".

Try to get the poundage on your bow up to atleast 70lbs too. Wildebeest, kudu, gemsbuck and hartebeest are all fairly large animals.

I have a hunt booked to SA for next May. Let me know how you do? Also, if you have any traveling tips after your flight over pass them on.
Good luck,

Going there myself at the end of Sept. to East London, South Africa. It's a missions trip, so no hunting, but we are going to Kruger National Park on a "photo" safari the last two days we're there. Look forward to seeing the wildlife.
