Made a mistake now my seasons over
Well, its been in a little over 2 weeks and my seasons over. Last weekend I shot a nice georgia 8pt, one of two that came in they looked almost like twins. After shooting the first one the second one stopped broadside at 30 yards...I Let it walk. Well tonight I used my last buck tag..about 6:45 I bleated three times and saw what i thought was a doe come out of the woods and across the field towards me. I video all of my own hunts and so as usual watched everything take place through the lcd screen of my camera. At 40 yards "she" stopped and got very nervous, so i made sure everything looked good drew my bow and let it rip. Perfect hit. Man was i pumped...unfortunatly that didn't last long. After climbing down I found that my "doe" was actually a small 3pt. When replayed on a tv screen this is clear....I keep wondering how I missed it with my eyes..Anyway wanted to share the dissapointment..Anybody ever had a smililar experiance..How would you handle the rest of the season?

Welcome to the forum.
Well first off I would be happy for your harvests. Relish in the good, clean, ethical kill shots you made and recovered the animals quickly. Enjoy the meat, a consilation prize maybe...but none the less a prize. Learn from the experience, take a positive out of it. Scout for next year on new territory. Hunt something else, if able. Or just plain do the work around the stead that always gets put off till after deer season. Hunters law number 11, "Always next year" |

Go hunt another state! Where I live here in Maryland I also hunt
West Virginia and can hunt Pennsylvania to the north. |

Just be glad it was legal it is a good clean kill something a lot of people on this and many other boards would love to get. So Congrats on your good luck.......

1st rule: Identify your intended target.
Be glad you had an additional buck tag and it was a legal harvest, refer to rule 1. <font color=blue>Good Luck and Good Shooting</font id=blue> <font color=red>Rob</font id=red> |

Congrats on your clean harvests and feel lucky/ skilled that your have positioned yourself in a prime location that has so much activity. I am just a bit confused however: How can you not be sure at what you're shooting at (target identification)? Was it that dark at 6:45 that you couldn't identify your target at 40yds? I am just posing the question for better understanding.

RE: Made a mistake now my seasons over
OK, that is a question i have asked myself a hundred times...the deer came out of a woodline at full alert with ears out ( i had just doe bleated) I looked saw no horns and then began looking through the veiwfinder on my camera, that is how i watched the deer come in, everyone that see's the tape doesn't see the horns in the veiwfinder, anyway the only other time i looked at the deer with my eyes is when i drew, after the shot i turned my camera on myself and talked about the doe i just shot. I am not a slob hunter, and although i am only 20 have killed many deer with bow and gun, so I'm not a beginner that let excitement get in the way. At the time of the shot I was positive of a doe...
