How long to get settled in?

Hello all.

First time poster here.

Anyway, I was just wondering about how long it takes for you guys out there that use a climber to get in your stand and be ready to hunt. I am talking about the time you get to your location(tree) to be fully ready for action. I usually takes me about 20-25 minutes because I have to

1. Undo climber and attach to tree.
2. If cold weather take jacket out of backpack and put on
3. Put on my safety harness
4. Tie bow to rope
5. Get in climber

5-10 minutes have already gone by.

6. Climb up tree (wearing safety harness the entire time!)
7. Screw in bow holder
8. Hang binos, calls, etc. to holders wrapped around tree
9. Situate backpack
10.Put on facemask, gloves, etc...
11. Pull up bow
12. Hang bow

Finally ready to hunt. (And I am sure I am forgetting something)

I just think this takes too long and want to see how long it takes the rest of you treestand guys out there. I have a buddy that I sometimes hunt with and he gets up in his stand in 5 minutes and is ready to hunt. Of course, he doesn't even wear safety harness! He also just has his bow, no backpack.

Usually 10 minutes at the most from ground to settled.

About 15-20 minutes. Like you, I felt that was too long and noisy, so I have started using hang on stands this year, home made, with screw in tree steps to access them, and cutting back on what I carry to the stand. I figure this will take me down to well below 10 minutes, hopefully under 5. The safety harness will be the biggest time consumer, but I have too much to live (and at the minimum, walk) for to not use it. I hope your buddy soon realizes the same thing. It only takes one fall to be paralyzed or dead.

My climber routine is just about as tedious as yours. (except I usually have to adjust the seat to deck height a couple of times to get it just so, there's another 3 minutes) And yes it stinks.

Especially when I'm getting blown on while rackety racketing up the tree.

So this year I hung two lock-ons in my primary homey holes so I can just climb, attach the safety harness (whichI wear on the way in) pull up the bow and be ready.

I'll still use my climbers, but not as much as in years past. You can't beat their mobility.

I try to be settled in within 15min as well. Though there are some days where things just don't go as smoothly as planned. Especially in the really cold weather when you're trying to fumble around with thick gloves and clothing.

I mainly hunt public land and have to use a climber. I'm like you and it usually takes me about 20 minutes to get situated. One trick I use is to put on my safety harness at the truck. Saves time and is quieter in the woods. I always question if I have too much gear with me but I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I also try to be very quiet climbing up the tree. I am looking and listening while climbing to see if I might be spooking any deer. With this said, I just leave early and get in the woods early. I try to be settled in at least an hour before morning twilight. I can't sleep the night before hunting anyway. :)

As long s you are safe up there is all that matters. Just arrive an hour before sun up. I like 30 minutes of total darkness before sun up. Good luck this season.

It depends. I've gotten from ground to settled in under 10 minutes easily when in a hurry. But most of the time when going in early with plenty of time, no rush, I'll drag things out and take 20-30 minutes. Not a big deal either way. Main thing is to be safe and quiet.

About 10 minutes, give or take. Depends if I have hunted that tree before.

I'd guess probably around 15 minutes or so as long as I don't have to do alot of limb trimming getting up to the height I want.
