Feathers or Veins
What do you prefer shooting? Veins or Feathers? I prefer shooting feathers. They fly faster and more accurately than veins. They cost a little more and you have to waterproof them but i like them. Also if you shoot them with another arrow you dont get holes or rippeds up veins. Sometimes but not always. |
RE: Feathers or Veins
veins - totally a preference thing though

RE: Feathers or Veins
4" vanes, any weather ready to go.
the heavier weight is preferd with me to helpwith thekinetic energy of the arrow. 555 grains pumps out quit a bit at 75 - 80 lb draw. PT |
RE: Feathers or Veins
I have both... I prefer feathers, but if it's raining i'll break out the vanes. They both fly the same for me.
I keep 3 arrows w/ feathers & 2 w/ veins in my quiver. |
RE: Feathers or Veins
right now im shootin vane with a shoot though rest and the vanes a rubbing the rest but once i get my drop away i think i might try feathers. do they actucally fly faster?

I prefer arteries to veins but who is counting?
:D Seriously though, vanes for me. |
RE: Feathers or Veins
I shoot both. For hunting I shoot veins. Indoor league I shoot feathers

RE: Feathers or Veins
Lx lungbuster, vanes are supposed to be faster downrage, 40+ yards. Feathers are supposed to be faster in short range and (maybe, it's debatable) provide better stablization for broadheads. How many of us bowhunters really need to take 40+ yard shots? Vanes, IMO, are better suited for targets.
I like feathers for a couple of reasons: first, they flex if your arrows nicks something like a long blade of grass, a twig, your rest, etc. whereas vanes don't (ie. feathers are more forgiving). Second, they're lighter than vanes. Third, they look much, much cooler. I still have to get some barred turkey feathers! Waaaayyyy cool! |
RE: Feathers or Veins
I tried both feathers and vanes and i just seem to like vanes better.

RE: Feathers or Veins
The only reason feathers are faster than vanes for a given length is the fact that feathers are much lighter......
Check out this ballistic calculator and you can plug in different lengths/heights of vanes and feathers and see for yourself the affect that drag has on both styles: http://home.att.net/~sajackson/ballistics.html Keep in mind too that feathers or vanes and their varying weight has an effect on arrow spine. For any given head weight, adding weight to the REAR of your arrows will in effect stiffen your arrow's spine while lightening the back end will soften it. This helps to know if your arrows are borderline spine wise for your set-up and you are having some tuning difficulties. Almost forgot to mention.....I shoot 3" Right helical feathers off my A/C/C 3-60's |
RE: Feathers or Veins
I hunt with only feathers, wouldn't think of useing anything else.
|
RE: Feathers or Veins
vanes for me as well
|
RE: Feathers or Veins
I like feathers better myself.
|
RE: Feathers or Veins
I shoot feathers. They seem to be more forgiving.
