Cheap Digital Cam

Has anyone seen the digital game cams that are at Academy that are selling for $98? Last time I was in my local Academy I saw a digital game cam that was listed at that price. I was in a hurry and I wasn't able to look at it and read about it, I don't even know what brand it was. Just wandering if anyone else has noticed it and/or used one?

Does anyone know of other digital cams out there that sell for less than $150? I am tired of developing all of the dang film and want to invest in a digital, just don't have $300 to put on one right now.

I also saw some digitals going for under $100 on e-bay, but they only had .3 megapixels and I don't think that the pics would turn out all that well.

I heard 1.3mp Cuddys are going for $200 in some places now - thats a good deal!

Don't look for too cheap - it'll be just that!

Maybe I just don't know what the hell's going on at all, because I've never really looked into scouting cameras. However, most deer activity right now is going on after dark. Wouldn't the flash of a picture spook a deer away?

Here is a site of that cam I was talking about that was selling on e-bay for under $100. I was looking at the sample pics and they aren't very clear and the flash doesn't extend very far. But, the 2.1 Megapixel Model STC-AD2 looks like a pretty good deal for $180. The pics look clear and the flash extends a little farther. What do youall think?

Your Probably talking about the wild veiw. They do ok for the price. I got mine on an ebay auction for $60. My buddy is a retailer and sells his on ebay for about $80. The pixelation is a little "spotty" You can make out what your looking at perfectly, its just not quite crystal clear. But for the money you just cant beat it. Heres the first pic I got with mine. After that the bear turned the thing around on the tree so i havent gotten anymore yet from this spot.

You got bears in Virginia? I guess it's just a matter of time before we see them in Illinois. Can anyone answer my question about the flash?

The flash doesnt appear to spoke them at all. In fact, Ive had deer come closer to check the camera out.

The Moultrie 1.3 pix gets the job done if scouting is all your looking to do. 3.5 second delay....The $99 one sold at WalMart however, doesnt allow you to change your pitcure taking setting below 1 minute. The $129-49 model from BassPor etc. will let you set your shutter down to 20 seconds. Pictures are decent tho.

For a $100 get the Moultrie. I have over 500 deer pics with mine. It's only 1.3mp, butthats good enough for scouting. As far as the flash? The first time I set my camera over the turnip fieldit was on 5 mindelay and I got the same two does and fawn about 20 times in the same night. So It didn't bother them.

How far away were they?

YOUR BEST BET is to get one from EBAY.

I recently purchased a used "homebrew" camera. for $200 ..it seems takes good pics, and I'd didn't have to take the time to build it myself.. I will post sample in a few weeks of this camera.

I also have a LEAF RIVER digital, and you can see sample photos from that camera at my link below:

http://community.webshots.com/album/421379033ESonub

If you are set on finding the cheapest camera, then you will end up with the cheapest result...poor pictures, and short battery times.

I think the general consensus is that the MOULTRIE takes a ok picture, has decent battery life, and wake up time. If you're lucky on EBAY, you can get 3 of those for under $300 bucks!

But I will tell you, it is ADDICTIVE!!!

Last year I bought my first ever trail camera in October ...the cheapestSTEALTH 35mm on the market. Within 2 weeks, I had 2 more, and by themiddle of November I had added a LEAF RIVER digital camera.

This summer I picked up a SNAPSHOT SNIPER digital camera, 2 - CREEK BOTTOM digital cameras, and the previously mentioned "Homebrew" camera. (The "homebrew" uses an OLYMPUS D-370 digital camera, and the other 3 use a SONY P-41 digital camera)

That makes 8 total game/trail cameras in 1 year.

My next step, is to start building them for myself. There are many self help links out there.

Good luck...

Someone was posting pics using that Wildview .3 megapixel camera and I was surprised. They actually weren't that bad in quality. Not crystal clear as mentioned but definitely worth the price in my opinion.

Only problem with the Wildview is the slow trigger time and weak flash. Mine misses more deer than it gets. Have a Cuddeback and love it, just bought a Moultrie at wally World price was right.

I have the wildview, one set of batteris lasts about one month, mine took about 400 pictures in that month and about 1/2 of those were at night. So the battery life is better than expected from 4 C cells. the camera can hold about 40 pictures on it's highest resolution with it's internal memory. the camera will accept an SD external memory card. I purchased two 128 meg which will hold over 1000 pictures each. I also purchased a card reader to download the cards into a computer. the two cards and the reader was and additional 70 dollars.
This camera is a .3 mega pixel camera, which means the photos are ok in normal size, 3 x 4. you cannot expand them larger without pixalation problems. In terms of mega pixels, the more mega pixels you have, the better the quality and the more enlargment you can do before the pixalation can be seen.
there is no Time and Day provision with this camera.
the flash on the camera is good at about 20 feet, if the deer are at 30 feet the picture will be dark.
All in All the camera has worked very well, the pictures are accpetable to see what is going on in the woods. Miss the day and time stamp feature though.

Yea, Moultries mounting "system" really sucks. Hope the camera preforms better.
