Does this make him legal?
This is the big 6 pointer I posted last week. This week he has a small point starting at the base of his left side. I blew up the picture so you can see it better. I'm in a 4 point per side WMU in PA. If this point continues to grow to an inch long would this make him a legal 7 point?

RE: Does this make him legal?
What does your hunting regs state as far as how long the point has to be from the beam to classify as a 'point'? It used to be that people judged a point to be anything that one could place a wedding ring on and it would not fall off. Nowadays, the rules are more technical in nature so read your regulations.

I personally don't count little stickers like that. BUT if your regulations says its legal, then have at it.

RE: Does this make him legal?
It is my beliefas long as its an inch, its a legal point.
That's a pretty nice 6er. I know you got bigger ones than him around;) |
RE: Does this make him legal?
Deer902 - It's my understanding that if that kicker grows to 1" or better, you have yourself a legal, killable, furry, edible animal.
Good luck with that. I'll have to dig up pics of my 2003 6 pointer, it's sorta like that one - 18" wide, but no browtines. Luckily, I was in a 3 point wmu. |
RE: Does this make him legal?
That "point" would have to grow a bit before Oct 1st.. I don't think it's going to be an inch long by then. So you'll have to let that nice animal live for another year.

RE: Does this make him legal?
I'm in a 4 point per side WMU in PA. If this point continues to grow to an inch long would this make him a legal 7 point? Now help me understand something,I dont have minimum points per side regulations here,if the deer is a spike horn and points are over 3 inches he is classified as a legal buck,if the points are under 3 inches its taged as a doe. Now my question is-------If its 4 points PER SIDE minimum, even if the point on his right is going to grow over an inch,he is still a 4x3,not making him legal in your WMU area.Am I right? |
RE: Does this make him legal?
Extreme1- to answer your question if the both antlers are under 3 inches it's considered "antlerless" in PA. If either antler is over 3 inches it is considered "antlered" BUT if it is antlered you must have on atleast one side 3 one inch points. The main beam is considered one, then the other two could be a browtine (atleast one inch) and a tine (atleast one inch in length). In a 4 point WMU the deer must have atleast 3 one inch tines other then the main beam. And this is just on side one. Could be a half rack 4 point and be legal as long as the 3 tines are one inch in length and has a main beam.

RE: Does this make him legal?
Thank you rile1564------I do understand how points work regarding the main beam,G1,G2,G3 etc.
The way I read the post was it had to have 4 points per side minimum, meaning the main beam,G1 g2 and g3 points per side. As long asONE side has a minimum of 4 points.:eek:thats all I needed to know I was only asking the question because if you read his post and my quote, then you will notice it says "4 point per side" Again thank you for explaining it in great detail and taking the time to do so:) |
RE: Does this make him legal?
In Pa. a legal point is 1inch. To be legal in your area a deer must have 4 points at least 1 inch long on ONE side
