Man if they haven't eaten them all by the time your season opens you have a true honey hole, I would love to find a spot to hunt with a persimmon tree!!!!

RE: do deer do this? and persimmion trees

At one time there was a persimmon tree on my parents place in Alabama, in the pasture between their house and the horse barn. When the persimmons fell it was a deer magnet! The deer would flock to it at all hours of the day. But it didn't take long for them to eat them all up. Only lasted for a few days. Something happened to the tree and it died. I was sure heartbroken! I'd get a big kick out of watching the deer fight for the persimmons.

Hunt hard or go home !

<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>We have bunches of persimmons especially along fence rows, the edges of the fields and in the planted pines. The trees are loaded with fruit and some of the trees (the ones that get the most sunlight) are just before dropping the fruit. The deer will come running like you are ringing the dinner bell!

I've been fortunate enough (in the past) to find isolated persimmon trees with dropping fruit. After immediately setting up on said tree that afternoon, I shot a 9 point @ 5:00pm and a big doe @ 6:35pm that evening. BOTH were eating the persimmons and BOTH were standing in the same tracks. There were other deer around . . . I just shot the biggest two!

Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies.
