Bug suits
A couple of months ago someone on this forum made the statement that he hunted in shorts and a bug suit in the early bow season. This intrigued me, and I am considering doing that also. Any thoughts on this?

RE: Bug suits
Last season, I bought from my local Mart, a 3-D bug suit made by underbrush. Early in the season, when it is pretty warm, this is actually all I wear. It is a mesh suit, so it is pretty cool, and the the little buggers can't bite ya either. I paid $46 for the complete suit, minus the gloves.

RE: Bug suits
i did that for turkey season. and plan on doing it unless the temp drops for the opening of bow season in ky. it also helps keep you from sweating quite as much on the way in.
the one i got is the bass pro 3-d bug suit for like 49.99. it works very well. i really like the fact that it's 3-d too so i can where it over other stuff later in the season over my cold weather clothes if i'm in an area that still has leaves of underbrush. |

RE: Bug suits
The mosquitoes on my lease thing the single layers 3-d bug suits are candy.I got my azz chewed up trying to do that scene.
My shannon bug tamer on the other hand is another story. I have used one for 5+ years now and it is showing it's age , So this off seasonI purchased the newer 3-d version to replace it. It's supposed to be cooler than the last model. BTW,I have hunted many a HOT East Texas October hunt (you may know the type;)) wearing just the bug suit and a pair of boxers- green of course:D. If you wet the suit before putting it on it has an airconditioning effect as the wind blows through. I usually pour water over my head and let it run down my body during the hunt. The shannon bug tamers are twice the price of the cheaper models, but with west nile virus in East Texas counties, trust me on this one - it's worth it. |

RE: Bug suits
I use the Redhead bug suit for 39.99 on sale 29.99. Haven;t had much trouble with th bugs, but the zipper always gave me trouble. Not the most durable, but not a bad deal for the money.

RE: Bug suits
I have the bug tamer for 4 seasons now and love it. A bit more pricey but works like a charm! The double layer is the trick! Good luck!

RE: Bug suits
Has anyone ever tried vitamin B-1 against mosqitos I use it when i'm hicking in the summer and it really helps it doesn't stop all of them but it helps. the problem is you have to be sweating in order for it to work it makes your sweat smell so that they don't land on you. but i never tried it for hunting don't know what it will do to deer.

RE: Bug suits
I used to use B-12 when I was an infantryman way back when. Worked pretty well back then, haven't tried it in years because you could smell my urine in the next county.
