How much helical?
 

I've been shoping for a fletching tool and can't figure out just how much off set I need. One comes with 1deg. another states right helical. I plan to switch back to fixwd blade heads so I think I should have plenty of rotation. Thanks in advance. k404

Depends on what kind of rest you are shooting through. If it's a two prong then stick with the 1 degree offset to avoid any fletching contact with the rest.

If you are using a WB or drop away then I personally would use as much helical as the shaft will take.

I still use a TM two prong, I'll look for a 1deg

If you are looking at the AEF "jig" then the 1 degree offset works quite nicely with a conventional prong rest. It is what I use on my setups. The Right Helical jigs will typically fletch up to 5 degrees.

Why don't you get a jig thats adjustable? The bitz has two dials, one at the front and one at the rear that will change the degree of offset. If you want helical, get a helical clamp, left or right. If you want straight, get astraight clamp. If you need different clamps for different set ups, get a spare clamp. You can get a used/refurbished one for around $40-45. Ebay is a good place to look, or pm me for a link to a thread on another forum wheresomeone was selling refurb bitzenburgers for $45.

Same thing with the Grayling. You get a right helical clamp and can adjust the offset by use of two screws attached to the magnet that attaches the clamp to the jig. Pretty handy.

I like to get enough helical so that when I look down the shaft, the begining of one fletch lines up with the end ofthe fletch next to it. Iwon't go past this point though.

I agree with bigbulls. Depends on the rest you are shooting. If you are shooting a prong style rest, maybe use quick spins to get the rotation you are looking for. If you are using a fully encapsolating, or a drop away, use as much helical as you can.
