Been Awhile

Since I posted anything about form, so I thought I might take a few pictures and see if any of you see anything that you would improve on. I'm shooting good as it is, but since season opener is still over a month away I have some time to fine tune things.

So here's to curiosity;

You've grown some. Your bow hand is closed more than you once were and your bow arm is fairly straight, might get hit with heavy clothes on. Looks like you have some lean if the door jamb in the pic is any indication. How's that stabilizer working? looks a little short to be doing it's job? Can't tell but it looks like your grip is sometimes high and sometimes low. It's hard to tell. You do look relaxed, that's good.

Just out of curiosity what are you aiming at and is that your wall or your dads that will receive the shaft. My boy shows me these pics and he better have a good answer, quick.:D

It's my dad's wall, but it's like I told him, I would rather patch a hole in the wall from my arrow than have to replace the limbs on my bow because it was dry fired. ;)

Thanks for the reply, Nodog.

Looks like you're leaning alot more than on your signature picture. Keep that finger behind the release trigger though.

Looks pretty good but I would suggest 3 things from looking at the pics. Sort of hard to tell without actually seeing you shoot thouhg.

One is your head could be straighter and more inline with your body. You are leaning into your string. Not a huge deal and you can shoot well this way. However if you shoot for a long time your neck and eyes will get tired from the strain. It is much more comfortable to be upright and looking straight thru the peep. And if you are more comfortable, you will shoot better.

Second it almost looks like your bow arm is locked, it shouldn't be. That I can not really tell from a picture. There is also much debate about the bow arm issue. Most target shooters will say your arm should be straight but not locked. Most hunters will say you should have a slight bend in your arm. Do what ever is comfortable to you and you can repeat. I personally like a little bend in my arm. It helps with clearance issues and forces you to rotate your hand some for a better grip.

Third it looks like you are forcing your fingers off from the riser. You should just let them relax and lay where they fall. Forcing them to be in specific position makes you use muscles in your hand and arm which you should not be doing that. This can cause you to torque the bow.

Again, you can still shoot well this way as long as you can repeat it.

It looks like your draw or release may actually be a little long as well.

And I agree with nodog. You should never draw a bow with an arrow in it without having a backstop. Especially with a release aid. Beleive me I have found out the hard way[:o]. I almost took out my computer monitor in the next room once. It's sort of like gun safety, never point a weapon at anything you don't intend to destroy! I have seen bows go off many times when they were not supposed to. And I have seen arrows go clean thru dry wall, so it just isn't the wall that could be damaged, but what ever is on the other side of it.

If you have to draw in the house and don't have a target your hamper or a pile of clothes works pretty well. They will stop an arrow if it gets released. You could ruin your favorite pair of jeans though.

You gonna patch a hole in your mommy if she is on the other side of that wall and that bow goes off? [X(][X(]:(Just a thought. Form looks good to me except the left elbow. If your shooting good who cares? Oh and you resemble Preditor when he took off his helmet. Just kidding:D:D:D

That was the biggest issue that caught my eye. I know folks argue that this is an issue of style but most folks tend to shoot more accurately, in my experience, with a slightly unlocked bow arm.

Actually, to bend my arm anymore would cause me to not be solid against the wall. The arm is unlocked and bent, it just doesn't appear to be in the pictures.

If you shoot good, keep doing it
