I know he's made up his mind , and I dont blame him , but I just wanted to respond to what Paul said.

Checking the straightness of arrow impact has been a part of the tuning process for years (longer than I can remember) , and it certainly will help with any indications of bad arrow flight.

However , Paul is correct , that the loose (bag type) targets shouldn't be used in this process.
If you shoot a group of six arrows (tight group) into a solid target straight ahead of you , and all six arrows are angling in the target with the fletching end to the right or left , you have flight issues (fishtailing). Or the fletchings are pointed up or down (porpoising).Yes , your groups can be great , even with these new broadheads that fly like fieldtips , but your penetration will suffer.

Bowfanatic,Am Iright in assuming that if you are not perfectly square with the target your arrows will enter at an angle. If your 6" off it will affect the arrow straightness in the target. Thanks for the post.

No! That would be splitting hairs , and from my experience you wouldn't notice a difference when talking inches. You dont need a ruler , just common sense as long as your perception is intact. Walk straight back from your target and shoot from close range out to your max. If they appear to be straight ,and your happy , then quit.

Put it this way. When I tune my bow , I tune it so bare shafts impact straight. Put fletchings on and it gets even better. So whenyou see people shooting fletched arrows that are impacting crooked , you knowthe bow needs some tuning.

Can you still shoot great groups? Yep!
Can you still shoot and recover a deer? Probably. But "probably" isn't good enough for me!
