Is 50lbs enough?

I am getting a recurve that is set on 50lb and I was curious to whether its strong enough. I dont plan on shooting passed 15 yards. Maybe 20 if i get a good enough shot and am confident. And I also have a question that is boggling my mind. OK, me and my buddy were looking at new bows and I was pulling back a 70 pound Fred Bear trx but when I tried pulling back a martin a 55 pounds I could barely do it. what would cause that?
thanks

My girlfriend shoots a compound bow set at 42 lbs and has killed a couple of differnt animals with it.
As for the pulling back question, it sounds to me like the Bear was a 70lb draw weight, but the limbs were backed off. The Martin was probably maxed out.

When i started out bow hunting i used a 45# recurve.I took several deer with it.Be sure to use a sharp broadhead.

The draw weight could be differant between the two and it could be the differance in cams.

Back to your set up.....My late best friend shot a 50# recurve for 20 yrs. and always used 145gr 2 bladed broadheads with wooden shafts. And usually had complete pass throughs on his deer.

It's not how big the Deer,But the size of the experiance that matters!!

50# is plenty. Actually, 50-55# is probably about the average draw weight of traditional hunting bows. Alot of guys hunt with less. I hunt with 60-65# straight limbed selfbows that throw an arrow slower than some 50-55# recurves (about 150-160 fps). I know one fella who shot clean through a doe with a 32# selfbow. That arrow was probably only going about 120 fps. Place your shot carefully and you'll do fine.

50 lbs is fine , stick to what carpetguy said and use 2 bladed magnus or similar heads , become deadly accurate with it , and then you will be putting them down in no time
