"I have had dog problems in the past theres a saying here among ranchers when it comes to dogs, " shoot em, bury em and shut up"
Good luck with your problem."

I've got to go with Wiley on this one. Four years ago I did the "responsible" thing when I noticed three dogs running deer on our leased land. I went to the house where the dogs lived and I notified the dogs' owner that gun season was coming up and that he should pen the dogs so that nothing happened to them. I thought it was a subtle way of telling the guy his dogs are causing problems without harming the dogs. Following gun season I was back in my stand when the dogs owner and the local cop paid me a visit. Evidently two of the dogs were missing and guess who they blamed it on? ME! To make a long story short, the dogs' owner contacted our landlord and *poof* our lease was not extended the following year.

good way to test out your bow or gun accuracy...

I actually killed a dog before I got my first deer

I hated to do it, but it was the landowner's wishes...there were 3 with no collars harassing deer on his place.

I could have took all 3, but I HOPED just getting the lead dog would suffice. It did for about 3 weeks, then saw the other 2 following another dog.

If they had a collar, and were friendly and not a threat, I would try to call them in and put them up...that's my 1 warning

no collar=feral dog in my book=fair game as bad as it made me feel to do it

Also remember that it is getting close mating season for dogs, accidents happen and peoples beloved pets get away, this thread upsets me to hear from so many dog killers.

wiley practices good dog killing management, I hope the individual who could ever possibly do that to my Friend practices it and uses it.....

Rico, there is no such thing as a breeding season for dogs and as far as I know any other domesticated animal either. A female dog comes into heat at 6 months of age and then every 6 months thereafter.

I hate to kill dogs on my hunting land as much as anybody because I understand that it's not the dogs fault that their irresponsible owner allows them to run loose. But I spend far too much money to let something like that ruin what little time I have to hunt. Like I said in my ealier post, I have 3 dogs of my own who are part of the family but I have taken all the steps I possibly can to keep them from getting loose. When they are'nt in the house they are in a 4 foot chain link fence with concrete poured around the bottom edge so they can't dig out.

There are too many people who bring that cute little puppy home and let it run loose to terrorize the neighborhood or the guy through the woods trying to hunt. If you are one of those people, then here is your sign. We get really pissed off when your cute little doggy comes and screws up our hunt.

bull1870,... I like the way you worded that! Apparently some mistook you to mean that its the law to leash the dog not to shoot the dog,....or was that, its the law to shoot the dog not leash it?

If its the first time I have seen the dog or its a hunting dog I let it walk, however if its a repeat offender that someone refuses to leash...thats their decision. My decision is to end the problem then and there!!
