1992-The Olympic torch, in Barcellona, Spain is ignited using a flaming arrow shot by Antonio Rebollo of the Spanish Olympic Team. Matt McPherson founds Matthews Archery Co., manufacturing bows with single-cam technology.

Thank you for the welcome!

When and were was the first composite bow (made from several different woods laminated together to increase strength) made?

BigJ71 07-12-2005 12:31 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

1963? Not sure where

SgtSabre 07-12-2005 12:36 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

That's a negative, BigJ. 1963 is waaaaaaaaayyy late. Like, more than a few centuries late.
Perhaps I should issue a minor correction. The first composite bows were made with not only wood, but bone and hide, all laminated together to increase the strength and performance of the bow.

BigJ71 07-12-2005 12:41 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

Oh!....yeah....um...... I meant 1963BC...yeah that's it...BC. And it wassomewereon theeuropean continent.....am I close?

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

Luckily i used this info in my senior research paper....

The backed bow was produced by the american indians as early as AD 500, it was made of bone , woods , and tied together with sinew from animals... Got the info from the university of iowa archeology department ....

mammasboy 07-12-2005 12:46 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

2800 BC :D

SgtSabre 07-12-2005 01:19 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

DoubleLung, according to my encyclopedia sources, you are also very late.

It wasn't in Europe and it wasn't the American Indians who first did it.

Not quite as early as 2800BC, however.

datamax 07-12-2005 01:29 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

now how the heck are we suppose to know exactly when that date way ?

thats like saying when did the first man apply peanut butter to an apple and discover a tasty treat ?

(and yes, the Dynabow question still irks me ) :D

SgtSabre 07-12-2005 01:32 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

The exact date isn't necessary. Getting the century is completely sufficient.

I'll give a hint. It was the Mongols.

BigJ71 07-12-2005 02:53 PM

RE: Bowhunting Trivia Game

Ok....it was "Bob" Genghis Khan and the time period was 1000 to 1500

Good enough?
