hunting on sunday

Hello, I am from Va and here we can not hunt on Sunday. I know theres been alot of threads on this in other forums but I would like to put it in the bowhunting forum because alot of people come in here. But it makes me sick that we cannot hunt on Sunday. I mean who owns Sunday but we the people. Its crazy. We just got the crossbow passed but it wont matter because the working man dont even have time to hunt but on Saturday. i mean we can go to church before or after we go hunting. There has to be something we can do if we could just get all the people together. i know the majority of peoplewould like to hunt on Sunday. Sorry, just had to vent

I'm with .270win on this one.... We in Virginia have the stupid, archaic, no hunting on Sunday ban. I think it originated back in 1877 but can't be sure. It is leftover from the old colonial "blue laws" and junk that have no place in this day and age.

Check out this image and you'll see the other state who can't hunt on Sundays. There's only about 7 and a few are slowly coming around and allowing it on certain land and in certain circumstances.

There's a ton of threads about Sunday hunting with all the people supporting it. PA and VA have senate bills in the works to hopefully allow hunting on a Sunday. We'll see...

Dang!! Living in the Stone-age!!

Well it seems to me that somebody ought to start a grass roots campain to get the law changed, If allot of hunters started calling their Congressmen, and Representives offices and email systems to get the campain started, get any State achery orgs involved and any hunting clubs, heck get any and all sportsman you can find!!, GET IT STARTED BRO!!

i know how you feel 270, i live in ma. they been trying to open sundays for hunting for years, i dont see why we cant, its we the sportsmen who pay for the land ,that we should be able to use for atleast 4 months of the year, some people work so much these days the only time they can hunt is weekends, for what one day its not fare, they brought up for ma. if its the noise then strickley bow hunt on that day only witch is fine for me cause thats my passion!!

You don,t want to kill them Devil deer do ya?? lol. I guess to make lemonaid out of lemons it gives the game a pressure break. Six hours of peace and quiet in a deer stand gives a man alot of time to chat with God. When I hunt on sundays I just take Jesus with me!

Wow, I was clueless as to this rule. It seems senseless in this day and age of diversity and and politically correct b.s.
You can't hunt on Sundays because of the Lords day? I am assuming, why are we not suppose to say Merry Christmas but Happy holidays instead. Anyone else know what I am saying. And I really am in shock if you can't hunt your own land.

I'm glad that I can hunt on Sundays here in Michigan. I feel sorry for hunters with 9-5 Mon-Fri jobs in those states that can't hunt on Sundays. One day a week to hunt???

Pressure on your F&G dept. , combined with burgeoning game populations , will eventually get a ban lifted . Make noise and get as many other hunters(and non-hunters) as you can to do the same . At the very least , pressure them to allow hunting on private land on Sunday , it isn't right to tell a man he can't hunt his own patch .

RE: hunting on sunday

Oh I know.... Believe me, I know.... You should see the poor guys who work M-S (yes even on Saturday )You know, those dudes over at Jiffy Lube changing oil or something. Those guys can't hunt unless they take a day off w/o pay!

I don't own any land here in VA, soI have to deal with public land and state forests, which is okay - if you go in deep. But if I did have a little piece of land here, I would be totally $#%*@ PO'd if I couldn't hunt MY OWN LAND on a Sunday!! It's my land, you know?

Another thing to take into consideration is that ban on Sunday huntingalso fuels the flames regarding poaching. Poachers, trespassers, andanother term Iheardcalled "outlaw hunters" - these guys don't care. They'll do what they want, when they want, on whatever land they want. Let's say you own 100 acres of land, and can't hunt on Sunday. I bet you that during the prime season in the rut, if you sneak out there on a Sunday, you'll catch a trespasser trying to illegally poach a deer!

WE HUNTERS NEED TO STICK TOGETHER AND PUT AN END TO THE STUPID, ANCIENT, ARCHAIC, BAN ON SUNDAY HUNTING!!!!

I agree with butch, it just fuels the flame for people to get in trouble. And I do own my own land and it really burns me on Sunday when I want to go hunting.

Most people think that with a crossbow you'll be able to walk into the woods and shoot a 180" buck at 80 yards the first morning of your hunt- take comfort ion their ignorance :D

Explain the reasoning that you can hunt crows in PA on Sunday, but you can't hunt anything else. ???

Sunday ban is stupid. If you dont want to hunt on Sundays fine, but dont restrict all hunters who sometimes only have Sunday to hunt.

RE: hunting on sunday

I agree in that we, as hunters, should have the opportunity to hunt on Sundays if we want. Nobody is forcing people out there and I do not believe that others cannot use the woods on that one day of the week. Also, for private land owners that don't want hunters to hunt on Sundays...fine, just post the land in that fashion.

I have no problem with people hunting on sundays.
Here in Ontario we are lucky. We can archery hunt on sundays, and only rifle hunt on sundays in Renfrew county.
Great for the working guy who cant get the time off and only has weekends.

RE: hunting on sunday

Yeah no Sunday hunting sucks big time. There were a few seasons where I missed entire weeks of bowhunting because of work. The biggest hurdle for Sunday hunting in PA is that the majority of private land owners don't want it and surprisingly there are a lot of hunters that don't want it also (at least in my area). It really is ridiculous.

YUP, here in Maryland you can NOT hunt on Sunday. There was something like one Sunday allowed during a special hunt last year or some such stuff. Anyway, you can't hunt on Sunday, but you can hunt with crop damage permits on Sunday. You can't hunt on Sunday, but you can go to the race track and play the horses, get drunker than a hoot owl, blow the family fortune. But you can't take your kids hunting. Go figure.

The No Hunting on Sunday law is still in effect here in Va in hopes that most of us hunters can staymarried! If wecould hunt every day of the week, lord knows most of us would be done for.
See, you guys that have never had a Sunday hunting ban, your wives don't know any different! For us, once they lift the ban...put a forkin us.[8D]:D
