Mathews Ultra 2 question??
 

I know a guy who has an Ultra 2 for sale. It is in mint condition and probably been shot less than 100 times. It is fully rigged out and he is asking 500.00. I think this is a little high, what do you guys think? Also, what about the bow? I know it's not as smooth as some of the newer models, but does anybody have one?

I have one and love it. If I can remember correctly, the bare bow was $500+. Depending on what extras is on it and you use all of them, that is probably a fair price. If you don't need the extras, I wouldn't take it for that price. Its really hard to say, but check the price for a new one and go off that. Good luck!

I think that is a bit much considering it is an older model and probably sold for not much more than that new, maybe 600 or so. I looked at one a few years ago. It was a nice bow and fairly quick. However it didn't have any of the attributes that the other mathews had. The draw was not as smooth and it did have a fair amount of recoil. It jumped out my hand as a matter of fact. And that was at 60 lbs and a shorter draw length.

Not that it is a bad bow, I considered getting one actually. I just think for that kind of money or not much more you could get a new bow, not one second hand that would not have the waranty. Mathews only honors the original owner. You could get a hoyt Ultrasport for less than that actually, wouldn't be quite as fast though. And my mighty might was only 570 dollars.

I mean if you could get a really good deal on it that would be cool, but I don't consider that a great deal. If it were me I would save up the extra cash and just a get a new one.

I own one and would not trade it for anything on the market. I have a small draw length and it's tough to get speed when you have a 28 inch draw. It's not quite forgiving as other models. For 500.00 buy it, I would change the string and cables thou. I shoot easton 3-71's at 70lbs 28 3/4 in arrow and am shooting well over 270fps. If it feels good do it, others will say Hoyt, or PSE are the best, I'm here to tell you if I'mshooting that fast with a short drawemagine what you'll get out of it. Other can compare, but Mathews only made one bow faster the black max series. In my mind this is one of the best bows they have ever made. One thing thou it has a little problem with creep. Short, compact and fast. If you have a short draw you know can rank with the other folks who have a longer draw length in speed. If yours is longer be prepared with the right setup to shoot well over 310fps. Good luck.

28 inches is far from short, it is more like average. I shoot 25.5 to 26 inches, that is where things get challenging. At your draw length you can still shoot normal cams and don't have a problem with effeciency dropping off.

The ultra 2 is a nice bow, especially with the mini max cam if you are small. A few years ago it was one of the better bows for women and short draw archers to gain some speed and energy. I wouldn't consider it short though by todays standards.

However currently there are other bows on the market that are just as fast, more user friendly and have less recoil and are shorter because of the newer limb designs. My Mighty Might is a better bow than the ultra 2 in my opinion and just as fast or faster.

Like I said, I don't want to sound like I am bashing on it, it is a good bow. Just a few years outdated is all. For the same money or a bit more you could do better in my opinion if you shopped around. But if you are dead set on getting a mathews it is probably not a bad deal.

Just giving you some more options is all.
