New Crossfires- THEY SUCK when it comes to durability!

Yes they do fly like darts out of my setup but when testing them, I have had them bend on me, just below the cartridge where they screw into the insert and they touch the arrow shaft. Two weekends ago my hunting partner and I when camping and scouting were shooting our arrows into soft dirt with a few small rocks. I know that it's not the best backstop but I wanted to see how the new heads could take a beating. I also had a few thunderheads and muzzys to try out and compare, which is what I havehunted within the past. WellI only shot the crossfire5 times into the dirt until it bent on me. We shot the muzzys and thunderheadsat least 30 plus timeseach into the same dirt with no major damage to the heads. The very tips did get deformed on both of them. And one of the blades on the muzzy did chip after about 20 or so shots. I'll take a pic with my digital camera of the crossfire to let everyone see what I am talking about. Yes I know I will not be shooting into rocks and dirt when elk hunting but I worry about hitting major bone and having the broadhead bend like it did on me. With the crossfire, the cartridge itself seems to be built like fort knox (sp?) but it is supported by, (i.e. spining on)a toothpick.

In all fairness I,m sure they wern,t intended for dirt pile back stops. Better check them carbons before you shoot again.

Motown,
I was there and am here to tell you that the rocks were more like pebbles or small stones. Now, think of what that broadhead is hitting when it hits a big game animal. If it can't withstand a few hits into a dirt pile then it's not going to work worth beans hitting large bones and such. Count me as a Thunderhead fan. I've seen them take a huge beating and come out screaming on the other end!!!

Good point, I have always used thunderheads 100 gr. myself. No need for me to change or try something else. I know they work perfect.

You pretty much comfirmed what I had said about these heads.
I had not shot them but had looked at them.
I was going to test them but I dont know if I should bother now:eek:
I'd rather move onto the new cut on contact Wasp;)

I find this hard to believe. I personally saw a Crossfire fly through a 250 pound deer and burry itself about 10" into the ground before finally stopping inside a thick tree root. When dug out of the root, the head was perfectly fine!

Buck Magnet, I sure wish I couldn't believe it because these heads fly so perfect with my gold tips. Just so you know I have nothing to gain in not telling the truth in what I have learned. I have 2 more heads and I will test them out as well but I need to figure out a good test that will be fair and equal to all the heads involved. I have honesty thought about shooting them all agains a brick wall. That would sure tell which heads can take the abuse and what heads can't. If someone has a good idea please let me know how to test them. Also I am not saying they can't kill a elk, but I just worry about hitting a shoulder bone, or other big bones in a elk. If I was only deer hunting I would use them in a heart beat, but with elk I have my doubts. A big 250 poundbuck, and a big 800 pound bull is totaly two different critters, not to mention that all elkhave a will to live that makes them very difficult when the shot is not so perfect.I have to know that my equipment will perform no matter what. If there is no doubt in my mind that gives me extra confidence in the field. And that is what matters to me. I know that this year when elk hunting its not a matter of if I get a shot under 20yards at a bull, its only a matter of when. At that time Ineed to be worried about making the shot and not be worried about my broadhead performance and bloodtrail.

Shooting into the dirt is a GREAT way to test broadheads IMO. I've had the same results on broadheads bending as these pictures shot the Crossfires. I also shot a bunch of Cut On Impact heads the same way.

Two things are true IMO

Thunderheads don't bend, and Zwickey's don't tip curl
