I thought Cabelas was selling a basic tripod stand for relatively cheap. Have you looked there yet? If they don't then the next place I would try would be Eders.com.

my buddy was looking into a kit that you put together using thier brackets and your 4x4s lumber to make a house shooting shack platform type stand . i think the kit is at www.natchezss.com its in the catalog under bucklodge shooting house bracket kit.

You might call me crazy but I bought a tripod off eBay last year for $150 for one that was 14' tall. It's great and real steady.
