Out Of Stater's

How does evrybody feel about someone coming to your state and bowhunting ..
as for me,, well come on I own not 1 deer here in NC , except the ones I have harvested. Just curious , cause I go to Ohio every Nov . and it seems to really piss a lot of hunters off there that someone from another state can go there and hunt on " their public land "

I don't see a problem with hunting out-of-state of public land. It's a free country! The other state should be happy to receive the out-of-state $$$ for license fees and such.

I have been toying with the idea of going out to Kentucky or Ohio and going hunting for a few days (where they allowhunting ona Sunday... ). I also have access to my sister/bro-in-law's 125 acre farm in upstate NY too. I have to check the regs about private family owned land and stuff, and if I still need an out-of-state license in NY - 'cause I checked out the price of a regular, everyday, out-of-state 2005 hunting license in NY and had a heart attack!!! Holy smokes, talk about major $$$$ !!!! [:@][&:]

I think it depends. In Maine there is vast forest 1,000,000's of acres so even with a huge influx of hunters, I rarely cross another hunter that's not in my party while in the north woods. Every fall you can watch the numberous big racked, big bodied animals rolling south on 95. Personally I think it's great. It's good for the states economy, it's great for thesportsmen, and to be honest it has no effect on my hunting. No, I don't road hunting slobs andno, I don't like tresspassers but those are in the minority.
If I had issues with out of state tresspassers or a congested hunting area I might have a diffrent opinion. I think the locals are more prone to ignore signs and to litter.
So if you want to chase deer that grow big and die of old age there's no place like Northern Maine. The woods are thick and nasty, and tough as hell to hunt but there is little competition between hunters for a good spot to set up. :)

It has been our experience that as out of staters , the locals don't care that you are taking thier bucks they get realticked when you take their DOES! The local could care less about their deer herd but usally care about their women. LOL

I have no issues with out of state hunters till they do like a few boys from down south did to me a few years ago and shadow me into areas and hunt where I have scouted and setup. They would watch me to see where I went and walk in after I setup and see where I was and then leave. They did this about 5 or six times to me on the stand same set of guys. I then moved to private. I don't have to many issues now since I access public land from private so I don't have to deal with those issues.

Out of staters are good for the local economy's, I just wish as AMERICANS that pay a huge amount of local, state and federal tax, the we as hunters could hunt in different states without paying some ridiculous amount for out of state tags..

I don't have any problem with it. I have invited some of the forum members from out of state to come and hunt with me.I hunt several states every year as well.

I don't mind out of state hunters. The outrageous amount they pay for our non-resident license helps keep the price for my resident license down. Or it helps bulk up the Fat Cats wallets. Either way I don't mind as long as I get to hunt peacefully.

I am all for it. I have several out-of -state friends and family that I haveasked to hunt here in kentucky. As a result, i have had teh opportunity to watch my father kill his first deer, best friend's sonkill his first turkey and my brother - in - law kill his two biggest deer and first three turkeys. The licnse fees help reduce teh burden on those of use that hunt in the state and has little impacton my hunting. In my case it adds to teh enjoyment.

As a result of hte out of staters coming and staying, i have been able to hunt private landin Mississippi for Deer, Texas for hogs, Arkansas for deer, turkey and waterfowl and Minnesota for pheasant.

i deer hunt in kentucky and noone seems to care. but of course i only hunt on private land that my family owns so i don't really take anyone else's bucks but my family's and family friends. plus the cost of nonresident licenses and tags shouldn't tickresidents off it helps them. and last time i checked ky has an overabundance of does in the western part at least. farmers are more than happy to let people take out the animals that screw up there crops. so i'm not complaining and they aren't either.

Where I'm from it seems the only people who have problems with out of state hunters are the people who are not willing to knock on doors or do some work for the farmers to gain access to private land. It's the people who hunt state land and that's the only place they can hunt who complain. If more people did there homework before season to gain access to private land they wouldn't have to worry about non-resident hunters. You only get what you put in it!

I have no problem with it. I have a friend in Kentucky who shot a 170 during the firearms season and said that if I wanted to come out it would have to be during bow season becauseeveryone elsecomes during the firearm season. He guarenteed me that we would get on 130-150 class bucks at his farm. Letssee less people archery hunting- Tough decision- notSee Ya in the fall!:D

I don't have no problem with it ... until the out-of-staters take up all the land and push us locals out of our private leases. That's the way its getting around here. We use to hunt a certain farmer's property for free (sure we helped him out on the farm any way we could, but never had to pay him a penny to hunt his land), then the outfitters came along and offered him big $$ he couldn't refuse. Now they bring in people from all over the country and we're forced to dig deep in our pockets to hunt a sliver of the acreage we used to hunt for free.

While generally I see no problem with it, in cases like the above stated situation, that would suck. But I soon to be hoping to find the time to hunt some of the bordering states to me.

I hunt out of state every year.I go unguided and hunt on federal and state land.I rarely see other hunters. It is so vast where I go there is no reason to go into an area if you see another vehicle parked close by.I have found the locals to be very friendly.I believe it's all about conduct,if you treat other people with courtesy and respect most often you get the same type of treatment back.
It's understandable how a local person could be terrortorial of an area they have hunted for years or have worked hard to find only to see an out of the area person in the spot they intended to be.If it is public land that is the risk that someone takes. If a local hunter came up to me upon discovering me in an area that they regularly hunted,I would leave and wish them good luck.

My sentiments exactly . Non-res are always welcome in my book since their contribution to my state's coffers also helps to keep costs down for the residents and benefits the local economy . I'll never understand the hatred some folks have for non-res , it just doesn't make sense .

I say come on and hunt.. Your welcome here in MO as far as I'm concerned. I meet quite a few out-of-staters each year and for the most part they have all been really great. In some instances they were more respectful of our wildlife and land than some locals I know. We are probably one of the most NR friendly states out there with so much public land available and the ease of obtaining tags. NR pay only $125 for a tag that allows them to kill two bucks here or two does whatever they prefer and two turkeys with archery tackle. The only exception is residents of IA, IL, KS, and OK and they pay $175. Still not a bad price and they can buy them over-the-counter with no limit. And we have a unlimited quota on antlerless deer in most of the state and NR can also buy them over-the-counter at the same price we pay which is only $7 a tag. I wish some of our neighbors would treat us so kind. Well I know the politicians have their agendas too.

Heck there are more persons of residence I'd rather not see in the woods than out of staters:D
Every year we get these yerks from NYC rolling up here to the northern half with everything from sawed offs to machine guns, looking to hit anything thats brown (or close enough to brown) and here I am bow hunting at the same time[:@]
