Enough to shoot Expandables

I'm thinking about switching over to mechanical broadheads this year, atleast to try them. I'm not sure of my KE but i'm shooting a High Country Power Force, set at 67-68 lbs draw weight and a 28.5 draw length. I shoot carbon arrows. I was wondering if this would give me enough energy to shoot Steelheads or Spitfires? And what one would you recommend? Thanks

I think you have plenty , steelheads will serve you well .

Plenty, and I would go with spitfires. I shoot mechanicals by gamegetter. You may also consider game getters first cut exp.

Here's another vote for Spitfires. I use them and they are great. This past season I had a complete pass through (quartering to andwent through the shoulder then ribs) and the other deer didn't pass through. It was a 200Lbs deer. The arrow busted through the shoulder, lung, heart and sliced the liver almost completely in half.

As long as your bow is tuned well you shouldn't have any problems.

Steelhead should due just fine. Don't worry about the head. If your arrow flys true, the broadhead will due its work.

I agree, correct tuning is the key to penetration and about which broadhead to use i would go with the spitfires thats what I shoot and have not had any problems.

As the others mentioned, as long as your bow is tuned correctly I think you should have enough KE for modest to small cutting diameter expandables (1.5 inches and under). Personally I would opt for the Steelheads because of the succes I have had with them and also because they have a more modest cutting diameter than the Spitfires.

I agree with Frank. Steelheads would be a better choice for your setup. Yo may also want to look at the Rocky Snypers or some of the smaller 2 blade heads like the Vortex steel 100 grn. Keep diameters down to 1 1/2" or less and you should be fine.

You need about 50 foot pounds of energy to sucessfully and consistenly open spitfires, I don't know what other mechanicals may require but you may be able to find out by searching the manufacturers website or contacting them directly. The formula used to calculate KE is: (arrow weight in grains)(Velocity in FPS)(Velocity in FPS) divided by 450240
