How Many Hunt Moose?

Just curious how many of us hunt bullwinkle every year? There`s nothing that quite compares to hearing that bull grunt on a misty morning!

I used to hunt them every year ( 9A) in the Ignace area. Now I find I go about every 2 or 3 years. Went last year and called in a nice young bull so that hunt was too short. Not going this year but likely will next year.

My oldest sons (he's only 6) favorite animal is the Moose. For that reason I dream of bowhunting one of the critters with him someday. It would be an awesome experience to just to see such a large animal in the wild. We just don't see a lot of them running the cornfields around here??? :D

I kid you not--September of every year is the month I think of most--that's when the archery season for moose opens here in Northern Ontario.
It's the time of year that the Moose ruts and it's the time I take two weeks off work and spend it all in the great outdoors--every minute of every day, for 14 days.
What a feeling!!!

I too like Ampahunter look forward to Sept every year to go archery hunting for these massive creature's of the bog's .Moose hunting is pretty spectacular espeacially if you get one walking into your call's ,nothing like having a horny bull coming in to your call's pissed at the intruder in his area who's calling ,sometime's they steam role right in and other time's they can sneak in soooo quiet .The feeling of a successful moose hunt is an awsome feeling that you's all should try at least once .

It does raise the hair on your skin--doesn't it!!!

Like John mentioned--it's amazing how sometimes an animal the size of a moose, can just 'appear' without making as much as a sound--and other times it's like all hell break loose.

However it happens--standing face to face with a bull moose is an experience to be encountered.
Needless to say--after the kill--well that's another story. Getting that monster out of the bogs is another challenge--sometimes I think I'm really crazy!!! :D.

Its a shame our government requires non resident moose hunters to use a tourist outfitters because I would love to swap hunts with you. I went to Wyoming last fall for antelope and saw more antelope and mule deer than I ever imagined. Every local we spoke to got a gleam in thier eyes when we talked about moose hunting but elk hunting to them seemed almost hohum ! There are some outfitters in Ontario that are not that expensive and with the exchange rate its a better bargain than you think. Don't overlook Ontario for moose, and Quebec for caribou also. PM me I can point you in the right direction.

Depending on the time I have I usually spend a week or so every year chasing moose with my bow (need to be drawn to rifle hunt them). Pretty good moose population within an hour or so from my house. The area is all swamps and muskeg surrounded by thick spruce, willows and poplars plus quite a few cut blocks......moose heaven.:D

When I was still living in BC we would go every year and always fill our tags.

Been applying every year for 10 years and still no tag!:( With any luck I will come to find some money and head to Canada for a bowhunt someday. Seems that will be the only way I will ever make it happen.

I've been on just one moose hunt and I was a permitee or the sub-permitee. I've been trying to draw a tag for almost 15 years and have yet to get drawn. On the bright side, at least my money os going to a good cause

Moose hunting with a bow is one of the best ultimate rush's a bowhunter can feel in North America.
