GOT HIM ON VIDEO THIS EVENING!
What an awesome evening of scouting, It might be some time before I have as unique of a night as I did tonight.
To start with I was videoing 3 bull elk, all youngsters, two spikes and 1 rag horn. These bulls were feeding when I noticed right next to them on the tree line a very nice looking whitetail buck. He was big bodied and sporting thick dark velvet beams and browtines. I am filming these bulls and buck when I notice the whitetail picks his head up and starts looking up the ridge. Then he really stretches his neck out and the bulls start to look up the ridge too. Out of nowhere in the top of my screen comes about a 170 lb black bear. Just racing by the bulls and buck at about 40 yards. They all crowd together looking toward where the bear went into the brush and with the buck leading the younger bulls they move into the brush as the bear goes out of sight. I keep the camera rolling and it isn't 30 seconds later as the buck and bulls head up the ridge right where the bear had come blasting down when the bear comes back out and right toward where the buck and bulls had been feeding. I get him on film crossing the little park like meadow and into the timber. He never once seemed like he was going to follow those elk. He just went right on by. The evening starts off pretty good with that bear buck bull episode but it only gets better. Within 20 minutes I have 3 more whitetail bucks in view, 1 small spiker and two little 4x4 type 2.5 year old bucks, all feeding away about 500 to 700 yards off on another couple ridges. Then the buck I have been going back for over a week now, since I last saw him on JUNE 1st. He shows up right below me in the exact same place. Last week it was raining so I didnt film him, this time it had just quit raining. I uncover my camera and get my camera in position, he's roughly about 100 yards out. For the next 20 minutes I get plenty of good footage of the 5x5 main framer. He stays pretty tight to the timber line and gives me just enough room to get some really good footage of him. He's definately a buck I will hunt. After watching the film as soon as I got home after dark, I would say hes at least 18 more like 19 inches inside minimum. He's got two months to grow and is definately sporting 120+ inches of antler right now. He fat, a butter ball. My son even said while watching the video tonight, "Dad he's a FAT buck". I'd say he's no younger than 3.5 this fall and may be a 4.5 year old. Hes a 200 lber as well. I filmed him with the wind in my face until light ran out. What a great night and to have it all on video makes it even better. Now how do we post video? instead of pictures! :D:D:D |

Shed,
It sounds like you live in Paradise. What I wouldn't give to have seen this all transpire or even for some shed hunting like you have. Are you originally from ID or did you seek out this wildlife mecca? |
