Chuck Adams

Happy New Year to everyone! Stupid Question here guys, has Chuck Adams ever put out a hunting video? I don't ever remember seeing one. Thanks

RE: Chuck Adams

I have seen him in some videos but not any that were his. Years ago before I knew who he was I remember reading articles about bird hunting (with shotguns of course) that he authored. He has written hundreds of articles on various kinds of hunting over the years. I have even seen some on patterning shot guns I believe.

Since he has become a world famous archer I think he only writes archery articles now.

Lilhunter, your right, I won't bash the guy but I know quite a few guys who has met him, not very personable, at least to them but everyone has a bad day.

Also, kudo's to him but most of us will never have the opportunity that is handed to him most times and except for the public land monsters he's taken, guides and outfitters will harbor special animals for those type clients. But like I said, kudo's and a tip of the camo hat.

I talk to him at a sportsman show in portland or in 88 or 89 and he was very pleasant and well spoken on all of hunting we talk for 30 mins.I ask him if he was a little nervous when he shot his brown bear he smiled and said just a little.

I give the guy alot of credit also I saw him in an outdoor show in ohio and he put on a seminar on big game.I found out if you are looking for tips on deer hunting for the average joe, chuck adams seems to be in another league.I don't think my story on how can I get a 8pt I have been after will keep his attention without going into the record buck he took somewhere else.

I was in the PSE truck years ago getting a new bow made up. Chucky came by to the back parlor and sat down. He seems a little quiet and reserved, but definitely couldn't have been nicer to me. I sat there for 30-40 minutes while he and a guy from PSE talked about chucks bear hunt he'd just returned from. Being shy myself(<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>) I held up my end of the conversation. He couldn't have been nicer. I don't think he does the video bit as he doesn't want all the excess baggage tagging along behind on his hunts. He does a lot of ground hunting and stalking. The guy writes(that's his living) but he hunts to HUNT. He leaves the cameras at home. I'm a CHUCKY Groupy. He can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. BASH him all you want. He really doesn't care.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I love the man :) I think he's one of the very best archers ever, right there with Fred, Howard and that group. Hes alive, which means he won't get the respect he deserves right now, but from what I have read and know, the man is in a league that has very few members.

I agree! Chuck Adams is the best. never met him, but I've read of his accomplishments, and not to many archers can match him!

RE: Chuck Adams

I have met him and also thought he was a nice guy, only talked to him for a few minutes but he was pleasant enough. I think he is kind of shy, and some take that as being stuck up. I have met Ted Nugent twice, He was pretty cool the first time, and a complete dick the second. I won't take away from his ability or his conviction for the sport, but he has some serious personality issues.

It's kind of hard to judge people that you don't really know. Seeing someone out of their element for a few moments hardly constitutes an understanding of the person.

I've met Chuck a couple of times and each time was very impressed with him. He was very pleasant, even came out from behind the table where he was signing autographs to kneel and put an arm around my 2 boys for a photgraph. I enjoy reading his articles more than any other author because he makes it feel like you're there.

I have never met the guy, but from what I have heard, he is an amazing hunter. Sure, he MAY be lucky like some people say. Sure, he MAY have some of his trophies because he hunts on hunting ranches, BUT that doesn't mean it is easy. I have seen some books that have him in his earlier years and this guy knows what he is talking about. He has even admitted that he has gotten chocked up on deer, and he has made mistakes, WHICH MEANS THAT I RESPECT HIM, because most professional hunters won't admit they mad mistakes but Chuck just sounds like a normal average run of the mill guy. Thats my thoughts.

Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet
P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^)

Anyone who says he's lucky is an IDIOT. You can be lucky once or twice and get a nice animal. You can be REAL lucky once or twice and get a REAL nice book animal. You can't be lucky 60 zillion times like Chucky has. He IS the MAN. Others try. Others buy some nice animals. No one that I know of has come close to his accomplishments and dedication and commitment to reach his goals. With the cost of things now and the close out of a lot of country to bow hunters I doubt they will. If they do it will be a very small group that stand alone.

Paul Brunner said it Best when he said this.

&quot;There are many great bowhunters out there. There are some who are truly great and there are some that have been &quot;made&quot; great by the media. There is not really any way to rate greatness in bowhunting. Certainly, heads in the record book do not make bowhunters great...just known. My opinion? For what it's worth? I have had the good fortune to meet and know some of the best bowhunters of our times. I believe in my heart that Paul Schafer was the greatest bowhunter to ever walk the earth! There was nothing he couldn't do with the bow and no game he couldn't successfully hunt with it. I will miss him beyond measure. All of us who truly love bowhunting have lost something in Paul Schafer's passing.&quot;

You guys who think Chuck is so awesome should read some these tributes to Paul.. He was a simple man who raised his own money for his hunts, didnt have any sponsors to pay for his stuff.

RE: Chuck Adams

I only have one problem with Chuck Adams and this may be a problem more with the Pope and Young standards than anything. I read an article about him hunting in Texas which as we all know should have some of the biggest deer anywhere in the world. Chuck was shooting every deer he saw that would go P & Y. Now I know a P & Y deer is huge for some parts of the country but for places like Texas, Iowa, Illinois, Canada, or Montana I think the standard is different. A deer that scores 126 off a private ranch in Texas is not a deer I think I would shoot. To me he sounds somewhat like a guy who is just out to make record book and that is not how I think hunting should be portrayed by one of its most visible spokesmen. He is still a heck of a hunter.

Antler Eater 01-02-2002 05:42 PM

RE: Chuck Adams

He couldn't have shot to many whitetails that made the book in Texas. If I remember right I think I only counted something like 5 or 6 whitetails that he had listed in the Fifth edition of P&Y.

I admire him immensely because he works so hard. My Dad and I spoke with him briefly at a show in Pittsburgh and he said he tries not to use a guide is it isn't required, likes to scout and research on his own, like alot of us.

Some people have trouble believing anybody can be a dedicated to a lifestyle as he is. Granted he has some sponsors now, but he worked his hind end off to get them. I don't know of anybody that hunts harder than he does.

MThunter 01-02-2002 08:38 PM

RE: Chuck Adams

The article I read stated that Chuck shot three deer in Texas. I remember the smallest was 126 and the largest was only about 140. Both very nice bucks, but for a hunter like Chuck Adams to be taking bucks like that in a place like Texas just doesn't add up to me some how.

Thanks everyone...just wondering if Chuck ever put out a video. Sound like he's a man that stirs many emotions. Not sure if I like him or not all I've ever seen was pictures of his kills.

lmao Kenny! Accomplishments arent dictacted by kills! Unfortunatly its only the few who seem to see it that way! There is more to the word bowhunter then P&Y!

Kenny..think before you speak.

He never did what chuck did huh?? If were alive today he would have surpassed what chuck has done.He was dedicated to the sport more then anybody I have ever heard of. Did you bother to read his tributes that I posted alink to???? He did alot for only being alive 44 years.

He was the third bowhunter in the world to achieve a grand slam of sheep ( and the first and I believe the only one using a stick bow) and had money been no problem, would probably have been the first. However, being first wasn't all-important to him, since his reason for sheep hunting was simply a great love for hunting them. The best of his four species would each rank at least in the top 10 ( the world record grand slam with a bow). He had taken a total of seven sheep.
In Africa he took what would be the world record cape buffalo, if he had ever officially entered his trophies. Being extremely humble, somewhat shy and feeling it could change a person's priority for hunting, he entered very few of his multitude of P @ Y caliber trophies. He didn't feel it was wrong it just wasn't his reason for hunting.
While In africa he also saved his Guides life while he was being mauled by a Lion, paul shot her thru both lungs as she was attacking the guide.
You obviously dont know who Paul Brunner is either, excpet for what he post. I got the privilige to spend some time with paul after he almost life this past year in a cabin fire while hunting muskox. Paul told us many stories about his early bowhunting..he used to shoot compounds...anyhow he's done many great things for bowhunting also, but like many great bowhunters they dont feel the need to make everything public.

I have read a lot about Paul Schafer - and I truly admire the man and what he accomplished with and without the bow in his hand. In some ways, I think Paul accomplished more than what Chuck Adams ever will.

Still, I consider Chuck Adams in that league. His record Bison hunt was a fantastic read - something like 10 days without seeing a fresh track and then stalking the three bulls for 2 or 3 days before getting a shot ?! And he hunted with his Dad that hunt too, an integral part of bowhunting is the comraderie and I think Chuck showed us a little of that there.

It aint all about record game, I'll be the first to agree there. But I also think those who do have many animals in the books are not given a fair shake sometimes, Chuck being one of them.

Cliff_N_Di 01-03-2002 09:26 AM

RE: Chuck Adams

Stealthy, you are correct about chuck not getting a fair shake sometimes..I know that he has gotten a good many kids involved in the sport because they want to try and be like him. He has taken alot of good animals no doubt about that..He's just not my type I guess!.

Clif and Di we will never know if paul would have got the grand slam be for chuck I have been bow hunting a long time I know the story of the great paul shaffer and I have nothing but respect for him as a bow hunter and bowyer and athlete. But I have no respect for the narrow minded paul brunner he has made a career out of compound bashing. He has a bad case of the little man syndrome.
