Maverick, Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech
I've narrowed down my choices to these 4 bows. I am planning on shooting all 4 and seeing which feels best. I currently shoot the Darton Mag33, but looking for a longer ATA bow that is more forgiving. I don't have good enough form to shoot the Mag33 consistently at longer ranges. I could definitely improve my form, but more importantly want to know why a Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech would be better than a Darton Maverick. I believe the Darton CPS Single Cam system is unmatched, but the parallel limb design on the Patriot and Legacy is interesting. Throwing the CyberTech in for good measure. Anyone have any experience w/ a Maverick and any of the others? If you haven't shot a Darton, don't respond because I don't think you can respond without experiencing the smoothness of the Darton CPS system. But that's not the only issue when deciding what bow to buy. Thanks.

RE: Maverick, Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech
heartland:
Welcome to the board. I think you will find this board very helpful to you in your pursuit of the perfect hunt. The folks on this board are great to talk to and can help you with just about anything. In response to your post I can comment on all three bows and in my humble opinion I would choose the Maverick over the others in a minute. I was looking for a new bow last spring and had decided on the cybertech after shooting the Legacy, Patriot, HavocTec, and every other bow I could get my hands on. I was just about to purchase the CyberTec when I had the opportunity to shoot the Maverick. That was all she wrote. I backed out of the Hoyt and went with another Darton. I shot a Darton Excel for 8 years prior to the Maverick and still love it but the Maverick is a true hot rod and it is smooth as silk not to mention accurate. If you have owned a CPS Darton bow then I suggest you stick with the Maverick which will help with your looking for longer ATA. Good luck in whatever you choose. Hunting is like life. You plan and practice thinking everything is just right and suddenly the wind shifts directions and it's all over. |
RE: Maverick, Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech
heartland, I shot a Maverick before buying a Patriot. The Pat was much quieter and had way less recoil (hand shock). The CPS cams are nice, I'll admit that. But overall to me the Pat shot much nicer. You realize it is only 34" ATA, though it feels longer. If you want a longer bow, try a Black Knight II (dual cams) or Pro 38 (single cam). These are both in the 37-38" ATA range. They also offer the Extreme Solo, which I believe is around 35 or 36" ATA. As you can probably tell I like BowTech. I'm completely satisfied with mine, and they're all very accurate shooters.

RE: Maverick, Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech
LEGACY ALL THE WAY!!!! I love mine. SOOOO smooth, 97% recoil free, and quiet as can be. Throw on a bodoodle, a sight, and a light weight stableizer and you'll have one of the smoothest shootin bows ever. At the store i work at, we sell 5 to 1 on the legacy. Out of those 5 to 1, the 1 usually ends up also being a mathews. I absolutely love them and would recomend them to anyone. I also like dartons, first bow i ever had was a darton dakota, but i havnt had one since because i shot a mathews(big mistake, :-) Like always, shoot all the bows your interested in cause my bow u may hate, but love one that i hate, thats just how it is. Hope this helps.

RE: Maverick, Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech
I shot all of these and more earlier this year. All four of these are excellant bows. You're going at it right by shooting all of them. Just make sure they are all setup the same.(poundage, same arrow etc) Shoot them each through the chrono so you see what each is delivering. One will feel the smoothest and most comfortable for YOU! Then buy it!
I chose the Patriot. I'm would have been happy with any of these four but the Patriot felt the best for me. PRACTICE....PRACTICE....PRACTICE......SUCCESS! |
RE: Maverick, Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech
I think anyone who specifies a particular bow out of that line up is crazy and just pluggin their own brand. I think you've narrowed the field down to any pick is the right pick for you and I'm looking forward to hearing of your choice. Your obviously doing the right thing by shooting them all and we can't tell you how the feel will be right or wrong. I really like the Maverick. My hunting partner shoots one often and it's a toss up if he'll be carrying the Darton or the Hoyt on each hunt. Both perform flawlessly. It's obvious by the loyal followers that the Legacy is a good choice but not my particular favorite when shooting the 4 you mentioned. You won't go wrong with the Patriot but again, not my particular pick in Bowtechs line. In the Hoyt line, you've picked my choice for the 2002 models. I currently shoot the 2001 VorTec which is superior to the 2002 VorTec IMO.
I think first you need to more narrow down to single cam/dual cam and then your choices might narrow more, or may not. Let us know and by the way, welcome to the forum and the addiction. Good Luck and Good Shooting Rob |
RE: Maverick, Patriot, Legacy or CyberTech
heartland, I got the Darton Maverick for over a year now and just love it. I tried Hoyt and Mathews and just didn't think they were as sweet as the Darton Maverick. CPS is great and is smooth as silk. Well I am just a happy with my Maverick and will be for a long time to come. They are all great bows but it must fit and feel good to YOU. What one person says feels uncomfortable to shoot feels great to me or you. SO it really is up to you and how you like it. But you can't go wrong with any of them. But I like Darton and my next bow will most likely be a Mag33 like yours. I also get great velosity with my darton. I shoot a 400gr arrow at 292 at 65 lbs With a true 32 inch draw. Smoking
Good luck to ya Brian Brian |
