RE: Homade Ladder Stands

SJH,

Go to the deerhunting forum. I bumped a post from PA hunter called build your own or buy. I replied to that post with a lengthy set of plans for making your own wooden ladder stand. I doubt it'll fulfill your requirement to make em lighter but possibly you could find a way to modify my plans.

HTH,

RE: Homade Ladder Stands

A thought to make a lighter stand, if doing it out of wood, find yourself a pallet, one of the lighter ones and cut it down to size for your platform. If it's a newer skid the wood should last several years and they are really sturdy, alot lighter than using 2x4's. Switch to regular wood, not pressure treated, is lighter and should last a good while if you don't leave it out year round.

Just some thoughts.

RE: Homade Ladder Stands

I like to build 25 ft ladders out of treated 2x4's. I put them in my favorite spots and leave them out for several seasons. The treated wood is heavier, but they will last much longer. I then use loc-on stands whenever I get ready to hunt a particular location. They work great.
