Question for South Texas hunters

Simple questions.. how are the ants during hunting season? I will be moving down there this summer, and was visiting in March, and let me tell you, they are EVERYWHERE!

LOL, I was prepared to answer a question about something somebody saw on a hunting show on the outdoor channel......

Ants in south Texas can be bad year around, we really dont get any weather that is cold enough to kill them so they are around all the time. I think ants are the worst when either its extremely wet or when its extremely dry. I honeslty dont have a problem with ants most of the time. I mainly only run into them during dove season or sometimes when I'm sitting in the brush rattling. What worries me the most is the tajillo and rattlesnakes, and the mosquitos can get pretty bad during early bow season and all of dove season.

Best of luck on your move and keep us updated on your future hunting success.

My biggest concern is my practice of letting all animals lay at least an hour after shooting them with a bow.

Funny you should mention that. I've seen ant's line the blood trail before I'm on it. They attack the blood (I guess to eat it) as soon as they find it.

I doubt the an't could do much damage to your deer before you find it. I've never heard of such anyways.

Do you have a place to hunt yet??????????

Yep, grandma leases ground for her horses in Pettus.. Right across the street from the S-7 Ranch. But I will be looking for more :D

Josh I'm not familier with Pettus, but I've never had any problems with ants attacking my deer before I could recover it. I have lost several deer to coyotes but never ants.
