Leaf River Scouting Camera DC-2BU
 

I would dearly appreciate any information leading to improving the quality of my "night pictures" from my DC-2BU Leaf River game cam.

The day pictures are fine---color, clarity resolution, image etc.
However--my night (dark pictures) at the same distance with the flash are all very "cloudy, almost as if the picture is behind a cloud of smoke".

Can anyone assist me with my settings in order to improve the quality of these pictures.

I'll ask NUBO to post one of my pictures here so you could see what I'm talking about. Unfortunately I'm unable at the moment to post my own pictures, I'll ask John for his assistance with this.

It may just be that the flash is not poweful enough for that distance of a shot. Indoor flash pictures have alot of bounce off walls and ceilings to reflect light onto the subject which you don't have in the outdoors. If possible try moving your feeder closer to your camera and see if it helps. Also if there is mist in the air the flash will bouce off that instead of making it completely to your subject ( which in this case happens to be 5 freekin deer, where do you live man?). Just my theories here, but I play around a bit with photography and the kind of power needed from a flash for outdoor photography usually starts at $250.00 for the unit.

The Feeder is within the 20 feet distance as recommended for the camera flash--but you would be right about not have something to bounce the flash off.
As behind the feeder it's all open fields.

I'm just hoping that other guys using the same camera would assist in providing their 'camera settings' so I can do the same on mine and see if the picture quality improves.

The night pictures of both my Leaf River and Bushnell are like this. It is my opinion that it is both a function of camera quality and distance. The real close pictures are not as bad. My better camera does not have this problem even at a distance and it does not have an extra large flash.

You could try changing the EV value to a higher value and/or the white balance to horizon, office or old picture but then your daytime pictures would likely suffer. I have not tried this but I may this weekend to see what happens.

In the end I think that the camera quality rules the day when lighting is not just right.

I called them about the same problem. He said to keep all setting at the settings that they recommend in the book. You should see a lightening bolt, an A, and a little house in preview mode. I set mine back to there recommendations and it works fine now. Good Luck

My pictures are not like that at all, my night pics are all fine. Here is a pic of a fox eating corn at night.

Rick & Il-Cornfed--what are the "settings" you're using?
I've been changing my settings almost daily and still cannot come up with a good night picture--now my day pictures are mostly with a sea-green/blue glow.
I don't think it's the camera--I'm just not setting it up right.
Thanks for any help and feel welcome to provide some tips.

ALL my setting are factory default, I haven't changed a thing on any of them.
