most accurate fixed broadhead.
I am working on setting up my bow with new carbons, string and such. Last year I shot muzzys with my allum arrows and they flew pretty good but with the new technology out there I was thinking about trying something with a smaller diameter. I looked at the NAP crossfires and like them but they are a little expensive. In your opion, what is the best flying fixed broadhead for a less than expert shooter and a less than perfectly tuned bow?

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
try the slick tricks all you have to do is sightin with feild tips and then your set .they fly exactly in the same spot as my feild tips. you have to try them to believe;)

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
i use slicktricks too and they worked great for me

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
Magnus Stingers flew really well for me at 308fps... haven't had a chance to try out the slick tricks yet though... heard rave reviews about them though.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
Any modern broadhead that spins true will fly just the same as field points. Out of a perfectly tuned bow that is. Never had one not.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
Thunderheads are the best I've shot. Like ewolf said any of them should shoot the same as field tips out of a finely tuned bow.

I would like to try slick tricks. Anyone know where I can buy some now? IT seems like everywhere I try they are out of stock.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
As far as accuracy, The best I have shot, are any 2 blade with a 1-3 ratio. Any well tuned bow will shoot any well made broad head is a true statement. I have found that in windy conditions ,that I meet up with frequently on desert hunts, the 2 blade 1-3 ratio is less efected by windy conditions. Knowing your limitations is very important on any hunt. By using this combination I feel that I can expand my limitations by using this type of head and I can keep myself in the game longer.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
There are lots of broadheads that will do the trick. Muzzy, InnerLoc is a good one. Perfect alignement with the shaft is one of the requirments. But even with all that you must have a bow that is tuned to perfection to get the best flight characteristics. You don't tune your bow and it doesn't matter what fixed head you use. They just may not group well.
To that end you have all summer to get it tuned right. Easton's Tunbing Guide can be a good help. Download it and use it. |
RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
ORIGINAL: bigbuck270 I looked at the NAP crossfires and like them but they are a little expensive. Some very accurate heads I have tried Wackems, Sonics, Montecs:) |
RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
I use to shoot a satalite TNT mag 125g. If I could find them I'd still be shooting them. They flew awesome and left a nasty hole. The past two seasons I've been shooting muzzy heads and have had good results. It took a bit of tinkering to group them with field points but once tuned they get the job done. I have also never lost a blade from a muzzy which I can't say about some of the cheaper heads I've shot.

Adams or anyone.
What are some things you can do to retune your bow so the broadheads match the field points. Where do recomend beginning? |
RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
You can begin by downloading Easton's Tuning Guide from their website. Then just follow the directions.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
I shot NAP Nitrons last year and they seemed to fly pretty good. I have some slick tricks on order right now. If they fly as good as everyone says they do, I will be one happy camper!

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
I shoot Montec G5 Broadheads 140 gr. I am very impressed with them and the knock down, pass through power the have. I don't know of a broahead that shoots harder, due to the weight I lost a little speed but I like the pack of the punch rather than how fast it hits! They are considered the straightest fixed blade broadhead on the market. I believe they have a straightness factor of .002

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
I also just ordered some slick tricks. We will have to compare results.
As for the tuning issue. Last night I got my broadheads to hit 3" to the left and group there. I will keep tinkering with them. Does anyone know if moving my rest slightly will effect the field point tune? I worry about moving the rest and getting worse. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help. |
RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
On my compound, I think slick tricks are about the most accurate. For the longbow, I agree with elkcrazy8, about the 3 to 1 ratio, or there abouts is pretty good. Stos and grizzly's come to mind.

Crimson cut-on-contact Viper Venom....I know alot of people bash their durability but have they tried the cut-on-contact Venoms?...NOT the talons....at ranges from 20-40 they are great , stable and keep alot of their speed . Spin like bastids....very stable....

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
I would have to vote for the Slick Tricks as well, though I haven't tried all of the alternatives. Last summer, I was tuning my bow which had a drop away rest. At first I had the nock point set up exactly level, 90 deg. Field points were grouping well, but Muzzy 100 4 blades (with practice blades) were hitting just a bit high (1-1.5") at 20 and a little over 2" high at 30. Phantom heads hit even higher by 1-1.5". The Slick Tricks were still hitting with field points - at most 1/2
1" high at 30, but I'm not perfect enough to tell exactly. This was with the bow slightly out of tune. I lowered the rest some, and it helped, but to tune the Phantoms, I also had to put one twist in the control cable. After that, all 3 brands of heads flew very well, and grouped spot on with field points out to 40 yards. The point I'm making is that the Slick Tricks shot much better than the others before the bow was tuned really right. I would think they would be more stable and reliable in windy conditions, or if you were shooting much faster than my 265 fps. arrows. They still cut a pretty nice sized hole when they hit. With really sharp blades, they perform very well. |
RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
My favorite is the NAP Thunderheads. I have been using this brand for many years with great results.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
You need to remember guy's it's most important to have a properly tuned bow in order to get good broadhead flight and accuracy ,that's priority and then find the best broadhead that match's your tune . I'm pretty partial to the Montac's 100gr and have found that they shoot the best for me .

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
So far the most accurate fixed blade I've shot are the Wac'em Tritons. Next to that are the Gold Tip Centurions. The Wac'ems are more accurate and have an all steel ferul, but the Centurions are WAY sharper out of the box.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
Would have to say Sonic's by American Broadhead, I have also had great results with 100 grain Muzzy 3 blades.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
Ahhhh, so many choices, so little time! [:@]

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
NAP Nitrons are the best shooting broadheads that I've ever used. They group right with my fieldpoints, are tough as nails, and have the sharpest replaceable blades on the market.

RE: most accurate fixed broadhead.
I have been using mechanicals for the past 6 years. I decided this past year to come back to fixed blades. I chose the Muzzy 4 blade and did have to adjust my pins slightly. My choice was between the Slick Trick & Muzzy 4 blade. I wanted to do a lot of shooting with the broadheads. Muzzy offers practice blades & the Slick Tricks seemed a bit expensive to shoot full broadheads into the target (especially when I am not very good at sharpening). I would love to see Slick Trick to come out with practice blades. The Muzzy 4 blade did shoot exactly like its practice blades, but a bit different from my fieldpoints.
