The perfect poundage
#13
I shoot my Hoyt @ 65 lbs and I backed it down a bit because in the cold weather it kills me to pull it back. One time this past season, I got kinda stuck drawing back and got busted by a doe. I am getting a new bow soon and it will be set under 60#. I'm a weak-link!

MD's law is that the bow must have a draw weight of at least 30lbs. That law has been on the books for more than 20 years, so it applied before today's efficient bows had emerged. That said, I didn't allow my son to hunt with his bow that maxed out at 30lbs because I didn't trust it to do the job. He eventually killed his first deer -- a P&Y buck-- with a 51 pound bow. I personally shoot 70lbs and used to shoot 84lbs. Anything over 40lbs that will provide a pass-thru most of the time will work.

My bow is set at 68# and dont seem to have any problems drawing back even on the cold days(up to -28c)
I think next year I will probably trade my bow in for the allegiance set at a heavy 60#r.It will only be easier at 62-64 lbs.And the speed you get with these new bows is unbelievable at a lower poundage.

I have something funny to say but will save it for the boys in camp. I do pull 70lb.s and can stop and hold it anywhere in the draw I want. What ever poundage you can do that at is what you should use. IMHO

shuler44,Ialso shoot 70 lbs.But todays bows are so efficiant that it's just not nessesary to pull so much weight.Unless your trying to prove how big of a man you are
When i get my OG this year i will be getting 70 lbs. of kenetic energy at 60 pounds. So as for my original post "WHY PULL MORE" well i'll just leave it at that
