I have used the Vortex on two deer, they are devastating on a broadside shot. Little to no trailing was needed. If you are willing to be picky about the shots you take try these broadheads. If not try some of the old traditional 2 and 4 blade fixed, I am talking about the Zwickey broadheads or those styled like them. A report from Africa that I read where different heads were tried on game said that best heads had a three to one ratio, length versus width.

Mar-Den Vortex

A little off the subject, but several years ago I had a chance to spend a few days with Dennis Ward (the "Den" in "Mar-Den"), the inventor of the Vortex, on a southern AZ Coues deer hunt. Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet - and a very good shot!

The original post is so old

broadheads usually don't last as long.

I’ve been using the 100 Grain Vortex for about 22 years. I tried Rage about 2 years. The Vortex has never let me down. I’ve shot several deer and they always have opened and the damage they create is massive. I would recommend them hands down. I probably wouldn’t use them for moose or elk or Brownies, but deer and black bear they are good heads.
