Default magnuns 125 grn 2 blade broadhead test results

Magnus 125 grain 2 blade:
Accuracy: 4 points
Plywood: 5 points
Tire: 4 points
Steel drum: 4 points
Cutting diameter: 4 points
Blades: 2 points
Non-mechanical head 2 points
Total score: 25 with a blade sharpness rating of C+

This is one impressive broadhead in my book. I found the accuracy to be very good, as good as my Muzzy 3 blade 125’s . I know that many have stated that heads of this type can be “fussy” but I did not find this to be a problem. I do however spin test ever broadhead before shooting it, and my bow is tuned well. I found the accuracy to be better than that of the bear razorheads I have tested.
In the plywood the head got through ok, without any damage. The penetration was not as good as some of the other top heads, but I think this is due to the two blade configuration. Two blade heads tend to “slip” through, rather than “bust” through the wood. In the tire it out penetrated every other head I have tried. It got through the first side stopping about 2 inches from the fletching. Impressive considering how tough a tire is. In the steel drum it shot through the first side, and stuck in the far side with a third of the tip sticking out the backside. After all the shooting the head is still in good shape. I was able to sharpen it, and it still shoots great. While it is a two blade head, it is fairly wide, at 1 ¼”. As they come out of the pack, they are just so close to being ready to hunt with. They just about shave hair, but it takes a lot of work. The Good news is they are probably the easiest head of this type to sharpen that I have tried. With any good sharpener most anyone should be able to get a good edge on them. If you are looking for a two blade cut to the tip style head this is my fist choice for sure.

Hey 5 shot, I knew they would do good, but how do they compare to the other heads you've tested? I haven't kept track of all the scores of the many heads you've tested.
Thanks for the test...again!!!

These are the first two blade heads to score a 25. That is pretty impressive since my scoring system give credit for the number of blades, accuracy, and cutting diameter. This head had a good combination of all the these qualities. I was suprise at how well they did. I figured they would score well, but not as good as they did. Most high quality two blade heads score 23 or 24. These magnus heads are right up their with the top heads in any catagory, and priced pretty low compared to many other heads.

5 Shot,

First Thank You for this and all the other testing that you do!! Second I have been shooting Magnus 100 grain two blade along with Muzzy 100 grain three blade side by side for two years now and they both seem to proform the same in accuracy. I would give the Magnus the edge in penetration and the Muzzy the edge in toughness. But thats just my opinion, thanks again.

Thanks 5-shot, I thought that the head would do fine on the tire test. It is too bad that the heads do not come honed out of the pack. But they are very easy to sharpen (and fun). FWIW, the Magnus heads that I sent you where the screw in 125 grain (total with insert) head right out of the box. I prefer, however, to buy my screw in adapter and head seperately. I will ussually buy the long adapter and glue (24 hour epoxy) on the heads myself, while constantly spin checking them. I have found these long apaters better aligned the head to get a true spin. The apdapters that come with the already glued heads (such as the 125 grain screw in head) are the short type adapter. - Just a suggestion. The setup that I am using this year are a 145 grain Stos Head (made by Magnus), 45 grain long adapter, four 4.75" vaned 33" 2613 XX78 shafts, shot out of a 68 pound Parker 33" draw.

Man with that setup you should be ready to slay any critter that walks!! Those magnus heads are impressive, and they are coming out with a new head this year that should be factory sharp, and ready to hunt with. I can't wait to try that one out.

I shot a bull elk last year and it was pass through, huge wound channel, and 20-yards dead elk. Repeat again this year with javekina, bad shot through gut, still, 20-yards lights out! I will never use another! Great head!
