RE: SUMMIT COBRA X4
I have the Summit Cobra XLS, and it's a couple years old. It's an awesome bowhunting stand. Big plat form, easy climber, and light. Can't go wrong with a Summit. The only problem I have with this stand is trying to climb smooth barked trees, but thats a problem with all stands. My next Summit will be one with a rest for muzzleloader hunting.

I think all the summit stands are the best on the market today ,I'm currently looking at the Goliath x4 .I like the big platforms and the comfort.

RE: SUMMIT COBRA X4
Incase you missed it , here is what I posted on the bowhunting forum about my experience so far w/ the cobra x4.-----
I recently purchased a Summit Cobra X-4 climbing treestand from Bass-proshops. When I began to assemble it I noticed the flip over climbing bar wasn't mating with it's stops properly. I spent the next 30-45 minutes trying my best to "make" it work to no avail. A call to Summit was placed (on my dime ) and I was quickly told " we'll have to send you another top section". It seems some of the top sections left the factory not mating properly with the sit on climbing bar. The two just don't add up. So if you bought one and decided to just live with the climbing bar not adding up with the stops, give them a call (on your dime , no 1-800#er?) and they will make it right. I can say right now that a LARGE man isn't going to like the flip up option very well. I'm 5'9" 170# and had to bend over sideways (while sitting) in order to get the bar up over my head. I was hoping I could use the stand with the bar in the up or down position. But in the down position it is too close to the seat and hits the leg below the knee before you can fully sit down. |
RE: SUMMIT COBRA X4
I GUESS I NEED TO CHECK OUT THE BAR BEFORE I MAKE MY PURCHASE. I'M GLAD YOU BROUGHT THAT UP, I PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE NOTICED THAT TILL I SAT IN IT...THANK OY FOR THE INFO, DAVE.

RE: SUMMIT COBRA X4
beulahboy,
If you plan on checking it before you buy you will have to install the two stops in order to see how the climbing bar will mate with them. No big deal really. They are two aluminum pieces that go into the ends of the aluminum bars that hold the seat. They fit really tight and you can probably tap them into place in the store w/ your shoe. Once in place hold the bar where it will mount allowing ~3/8" gap on each side for the plastic spacers. The bar should sit inside the stops when in the down position. The picture on the box should help explain what I'm trying to get at. Good shopping! |
RE: SUMMIT COBRA X4
Not sure about the cobra, but I just got a new viper x4. It's a real impressive stand. I couldn't be more happier with it. I struggled weather to get the cobra or not. I just wasn't sure about the moveable bar. This will be my first bow season, so I went with the viper just to have a little more secure feeling with the stationary bar. I'm sure you'll be happy with it if you chose to get it.
