What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I've shot Thunderhead 85 grain for 4 years now. I think I could get better arrow flight out of another broadhead. I think the Thunderhead blades are a little to wide and catch a little too much wind for my liking. I'm wanting to switch to a narrower broadhead. Any suggestions? CH

I have heard that the Montec G5's shoot great, but I've never tried them.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I recently switched to 100 gr. Rocket Ultimate Steele. They fly sweet!!! I was a little hesitant to get them at first since the cutting diameter is only 7/8", but I decided to trade accuracy for cutting diameter. They fly exactly like field points. I'm very impressed with them so far (haven't shot them at deer yet).

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I USED THUNDERHEADS FOR YEARS, BUT LAST YEAR I SWITCHED TO MUZZY 100'S, I LOVE THEM, THE BUCK I SHOT LAST YEAR HAD A HUGE HOLE IN THE SHOULDER!!

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
i have taken three deer with them, believe me the deer don't know the diameter they just fall to the ground.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I'd say muzzys right now but I ordered some slick tricks and will give you guys a report on them when I get to shoot them.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
The G5's or the muzzy's are great heads ,can't go wrong with either one.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
You might want to try a couple different heads. Seems like the market is flooded with good quality broadheads these days.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
check out wasp bullet 100s. They have a small diameter.
|
RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
Muzzy has always done the trick for me.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
Mangus stinger, cut to tip and fly like a field point out of mt Outback

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I like the Montecs;).

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
My favorite would have to be a muzzy 4 blade
|
RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
Can't beat a Muzzy. And for yourself, you might try a 4 blade. Less width for less planing. More blades for more blood. I shoot the 115 grain 4 blades and wouldn't trade for nothing. I used about five different broadheads last year just to see, and nothing has the combination of flight, penetration, and damage that a Muzzy has. My 2 cents.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I used to shoot the Rocky Mountain Snypers. I had the opportunity to shoot the Montec G5's. I will start by saying that they shoot just like field points(on a properly tuned bow). The only thing I would say that is a slight negative is that when they are flying, they make a little hissing sound. Nothing big though. They come out of the packs pretty damn sharp and can be easily razor sharp again, using a stone. I was told by a buddy of mine, that a person he knows shot 5 deer with the same head last year and had no problems with them!

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I love Thunderheads and have been shooting them for as long as i can remember. I've never had a problem what so ever with any bow i've owned getting Thunderheads to fly and group with field points and shoot very well. I have always found them to be easy to tune, they fly great and every one i've ever purchased was shaving sharp out of the package and do a number on deer. If i were to ever switch i would probably try Muzzys but i have no reason to change as long as the Thunderheads keep working.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I would half to say montecs

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
i used 4 bladed muzzy's for years and liked them very much but the fellow who owns our local pro shop ( a former national champion) gave me a 75 grain premier from rocky mountain. I never had a fixed blade fly so true. I arrowed a 140 class buck with them in Illinois last season and the heads proformed nicely. I know you can't judge a head by one deer but the tight groups out to 40 yards convinced me.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I shoot the NAP Thunderheads in 125 grain. Never left me down.;)
|
RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I have been shooting 125gr Thunderheads since the mid 1980's and have had great flight with them. I don't see the need to change myself but since you are looking for something different I'd say look at Muzzy and the G5 Montecs. Guys around here have had great success with the G5's and my proshop can't keep stocked! I know the Thunderheads can be testy in high speed bows but if you have a well tuned bow they shoot like bullets! I get good blood trails and they are razor sharp out of the package.

Wasp Hammer SST's are hard to beat...downed a 40" bull moose last year and he was down in 30 seconds.
This year I am using Phantom 4-blade cut on contact(which are made by Muzzy) these shoot very well, 9 times out of 10 I am in a 8 inch cirlce at 50 yards. I hope to arrow Moose this week and then compare to the Wasp and see which comes out less damaged. |
RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
crimson talons for me...garanteed to fly straight....plus they have 6 blades
|
RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
My vote is for Slick Tricks. I do want to try the Montecs and see how they fly.

RE: What's the best fixed position broadhead?
I got some 100 gr. Magnus Stinger, 4 blades this year. I was impressed by how accurate they were. Shot 1 deer with them so far. A rib did bend one of the bleeder blades, I looked and looked and the only blood I found was on the arrow stuck in the ground[&o] But I guess that doesn't matter since the deer took 2 or 3 running steps before piling up for good:D
