RE: NEED HELP ON A NEW GPS

I have a garmin rino 120 as well as an e-trex. Of the two the rino gets better reception then the e-trex but both work very well. I like the control button on the rino better as well. If you log a log of waypoints it is much quicker and easier to use the "joystick" to name spots and enter coordinates then with a simple up down button. I don't know per sey if either will work better in the woods then your 72 as I have no experience with that model.

make sure you get one with a electric compass, garmin makes a high end of the etrex around $300 bucks. its silver and has a electric compass and downloadable maps. I think its called like the vertec.

I have an old Garmin II plus and it works great for me. Now with the error reduced in the satilite, you and I get the same percision with our older models as the new models. I personally would like a newer model like the Legend or Vista, but can't justify the price for a new unit. My old one works for everything I need it to do. If your 72 has the 12 parallel channels, I don't know if it does, save your money and buy something you really need and/or want. Your 72 works just as good as a new one.

just checked your unit online, can get 12 channels and it is really not that old. i don't think you would have a problem with it. only suggestion i might have is you purchase a cable for it so you can download from the garmin web site recent updates to the unit.
