Increase arrow speed with fall aways?

My local pro shop dealer told me the other day that he gained 10 fps when he went to a drop zone rest because with a fall away you loose all of the friction between arrow and rest. Have any of you ever noticed anything like this?

I have heard the same thing but I have never actually tried it to see for myself. I guess it would be possible but i don't know about 10fps. Maybe?

I don't think that a fall away rest make's this kind of difference, maybe a couple fps but no more than that. MAYBE

I tried the NAP 2000 a couple years ago. I was shooting 276fps before installing the Nap dropaway. I was shooting 278fps after installing it!

I switched from a whisker biscuit to a drop zone this last year and picked up about 5 fps.

Fall away is not going to give any speed gain you'd notice. Even chrono readings can vary a bit from shot to shot without changing anything so diffeences of 3fps are nothing. As for gaining 5fps over a wWhisker Bisquit, it's not so much that you gained, but that the bisquit was slowing you down that much, which is very common.

On my TKO ,I gained about 3 feet per second over my TM Hunter.

This rest is super.

The only way a person would gain 10 fps with a fallawy is if the standard rest had some major fletching contact problems, period.

You may gain 1-2 fps but I have never seen a difference from one to the next. The key is being properly tuned with both.

Thats what I thought. I figured 3 or 4 fps but not 10. It sounded like an awful lot so I figured I would ask before I dissmissed it. Thanks.

Yeah, 10fps is a little on the high side.

Run away from there ASAP. He is trying to get you to spend the cash to buy a new arrow rest. I went to a fall away and got 1FPS. 1. Now if speed is a consideration, get rid of weight on the string. i went from metal nocks to tie on nocks and got 8 FPS.

A friend of mine used to use the 3 prong tiger tuff sure shot rest, (similar to the bodoodle). He had his bow chroned with this setup (last year). He recently put on the drop zone fall away rest and chroned it (last weekend). He gained 10 fps. Seriously. The only thing he changed on his bow was the rest. Thats it. The thing that doesn't lead me to believe that he gained 10fps, was that 2 different chronos were used. One could have been more accurate than the other. He did sight in his bow when he got home and said he had to adjust his 30-45 yd pins.

gained 4 fps with my FX when I changed from the Quicktune 100o to the QT-4000. It is worth the change though . . . accuracy can be a greater than the speed gain and that makes the offset worth it to me.
