Minimum arrow weight
I recently purchse a PSE Nova L3 and it says on the bow that the minimum arrow weight should be 360 grains. I shoot CX300's and those are 8 grains per arrow inch and I am shooting a 28 inch arrow, therefore the weigth of the arrow is 224 grains. When I add a 100 grain field tip it increases the overall weight to 324. Since the arrow weight is under 360 will it do damage to the bow? The Carbon Express website has a chart that says I should be shooting a CX200 which is even lighter than the arrow I am using now. I don't understand this. Can someone please clear this up for me?

RE: Minimum arrow weight
Don't forget to add your fletchings, knock, and insert to the weight. If you include those, you are proably over 360.

RE: Minimum arrow weight
Most bow manufacturers recommend 6gr/lb of draw weight. That means total arrow weight. I assume your bow maxes at 60lbs. Therefore they say shoot at least 360gr. That's for warranty purposes. IBO sets a minimum of 5gr and many shoot this to get more speed. Most hunting setupswill give you somewhere between 320 and 450gr of arrow. All depends on shafts, points, etc. A good site to see this for yourself is www.bowjackson.com You can put data in there and come up with all kinds of options. Try it.

RE: Minimum arrow weight
My Carbon Express 300 cut at 29" is 349 grains. Thats with a 100 grain tip and feathers though. If you have vanes I'd be at about 360 grains.
Good luck! |
