The Block
I'm looking at buying The Block(the $60 model). Do they work as well and hold up as well as they are advertised? Any info would be great!! Thanks
|
RE: The Block
I have the 18" square one and it holds up fantastic as long as you use field points. You can shoot them with broadheads and they pull out easy but will shred the target pretty quick. For field points I think it is the best target I have ever bought.

RE: The Block
Mine does NOT work as advertised. Arrows of all kinds pass right through it...since day one![:'(]
|
RE: The Block
it depends on who you ask , i 've had mine 3 years now and it's kind of chewed up but i haven't had a pass thru yet , i only shoot brosdhead at it a couple times to see how they are flying then i shoot the broadheads at my 3d target , this keeps the block in better shape , it doesn't do too much for the mckenzie though!

RE: The Block
had mine for three years, shows some signs of use, might be time to turn it around. i just got tired of buying targets and refletching arrows.
|
RE: The Block
I just ordered the Pro Model from Cabelas. I have a DeadStop bag but after only a few shots on each bull's eye, I get pass through. Have to take it down and step on it then it's find. Wish I would have spent the $$ on the Block in the first place. Hope the Block works as good as they say.

RE: The Block
I have had mine for about a year now. Pretty much use it for broadheads. I have put a couple hundred broadheads into it so far, and its doing ok. As mentioned earlier the blades will shread the layers pretty bad if you aim at the same mark. Im shooting 280fps and have had no pass throughs yet(broadhead or fieldtips).

RE: The Block
Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the Hunter(18x18x18).

RE: The Block
I just bought one this year and am less than impressed. Field tips are tough to pull out and broadheads shred the heck out of it. I'll use it to shoot a few practice shots with broadheads before each season but use bag targets with field tips the rest of the year.
|
RE: The Block
I use the portable mainly for broadheads. I get a little poke through with field points, but never a pass through. Broadheads do chew it up but nothing is designed to last forever.

RE: The Block
Well I just got my Block Pro Model. When they say that you can remove an arrow with one hand, I would like to see the person who can do this! I am shooting a Bow Tech Extreme VFT, 28 1/2 inch pull @ 60 lbs., with 400 Beman carbon arrows with a field tip. Since it is cold out, I have it set up in my basement and shoot about 10 yards. The arrow goes about 12 inches deep. Maybe after it gets shot for awhile, it will be easier to get the arrows out.

RE: The Block
THE POINT TO THE BLOCK IS THAT IT DOES NOT DULL BROADHEADS...
AN THAT IT IS EXTREEMLY PORTABLE. IF YOU SWITCH YOUR FIELD POINTS TO THE NEW BOAT-TAIL SHAPE INSTEAD OF THE OLDER TYPE THAT HAS A NECK AROUND THE BASE..YOU WILL FIND THEY PULL OUT EASILY... |

RE: The Block
I'm with rangerstud on this one. I don't see how that is possible. And I've never heard that to be a "claim to fame" of the Block.
|
RE: The Block
I have had one for a year with no problems. It works as advertised for me. Lots less hassle than setting up a 3-D target.
|
RE: The Block
Well, I have solved the problem of arrows pulling out hard. I was shooting Beman 400's camo colored. The camo coating heats up when shot into The Block making them hard to pull. Went and bought 6 practice arrows in plain gray with the boat tail tips. They pull ten times easier. :)

RE: The Block
I've had my block for about a year and half now with 3 people that shoot at it. While setting up a new sight today I had an arrow go through far enough that the fletchings were just inside the target on the center dot. So it's starting to thin out a little. It will last at least through next year then I'll replace it. I don't know of another target that can take as many shots and last as long for field point shooting.
I think it's held up great for field point use, but it won't last long for broadheads they tear it up pretty quick. |
RE: The Block
Sounds like The Block will be money well spent. Like BHS said, no target will last forever.
|
RE: The Block
I use mine everyday during lunch (weather permitting). I love it. every few months I take some black spray paint and re-color the black circles. One hand is all it takes to pull out arrows. Sometimes I have to lay my 3D McKenzie target on the ground, take it apart, step on it with one foot and pull the arrow out.
Buy the Block, you wont be disappointed. |
RE: The Block
Got one for christmas. Kinda cold out so I've only put 20 or so arrows in it. Not the easiest to pull the arrows out but it is getting easier with every shot. Arrow only go in 10 in. or so. So far so good. I think it will last me quite a few years. I think Santa did a good job picking it out for me!

RE: The Block
You didn't mention if you will be shooting broadheads into your new target, so I will offer this for standard fieldpoints. I have an Eternity target from Morrell that is three years old, and I shoot everyday, weather permitting. This target has taken thousands of shots without a single pass-thru. I have replaced the outside cover once and in terms of maintenance, you simply lay it flat and jump on it to recompress material and alternate shooting between the front and back of the target. For 50 bucks, I simply cannot imagine a better more durable target. Good shopping.

RE: The Block
I have the $80 and I love it. Just got it for x-mas and I've already put over 100 shots into with feild tips. Arrows aren't too easy to pull out but I'm sure it'll last me some time.
|
RE: The Block
its allright my arrows are hard to pull out but after a while i think i will break it in just got it

RE: The Block
oh ps im only shooting 43#
|
RE: The Block
I bought the $60 Block. Mine shot through pretty quickly but I was shooting at 10-12 yards in my garage.
|
RE: The Block
I bought the HOLE this season and like it; the HOLE is for elevated shots (the layers run vertical); i would think that if you are using the BLOCK for elevated shots you will definitely tear them up because you will be shooting thru the layers not directly into them; that being said, I do notice that the broadheads will cut and pull small poeces out but I'm not very worried; I think it will hold up well
|
RE: The Block
It just cracks me up that the Black Hole ads like to point out that their layers run vertical so you don't shoot down through the layers when shooting from an elevated postition.
When I shoot my Block from a treestand or other elevated position, I simply turn it on its side and....what the....now it has vertical layers! It's like magic! The Block & Black Hole are very similar IMO and both will withstand a lot of abuse. But the bottom line is that no target will last forever. And no target will withstand the repeated abuse from broadheads for very long. But I think that either of these two targets work better than most on the market. Although the face of my Block may be chewed up a little from broadheads, I still have yet to have an arrow come close to passing thru and it's going into its 3rd year of service. |
RE: The Block
point taken
granted the larger square BLOCK/HOLE targets would sit both ways, but my portable HOLE wouldn't stand on end for more than one shot, so I really do need one with vertical layers because you shoot once and...what the... awe man the the thing tipped over |
RE: The Block
I just bought The Block ($59.99 model) a couple of days ago and love it so far. The arrows are a little tough to pull out but that will change as I break in the target more. I would recommend buying one.
|
RE: The Block
If you want a two finger pull for field points make your own target. One burlap sack packed with shrink wrap, also will take alot of shots. burlap sack will wear out first. :D
|
RE: The Block
The bag idea works well but I think that they may be talking about broadheads
|
RE: The Block
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE BLOCK, BUT I HAD A BLACKHOLE, AND IT DID NOT HOLD UP AT ALL SHOT IT OUT IN ONE SUMMER, MAYBE WITH JUST FIELDTIPS, BUT BROADHEADS NO, AND I EVEN USE THE MUZZY PRACTICE BLADES.
|
RE: The Block
Umm.. If you would read all the posts you would come to find that they are talking about broadhead AND fieldtips...I can see why your handle is elkcrazy, gettin a little excited there arent we? I like the bag idea and i think i will try it. Thanks RobinHood36 for the great idea!

RE: The Block
The local range that I shoot at has the same material that the block uses. It is actually the same stuff, bought from the same company that sells it to the block company. Like many ranges, they used to use cardboard, but it didn't last long at all. They didn't have the man power to keep replacing it. Now that they have the block material, they haven't done anything with it for over a year. The only drawback is that it cost them $10,000 to buy it all. They expect it to last them for more than 10 years, so in the long run, it is much cheaper. And carbons pull hard without a lube.
|
RE: The Block
Our 1st block lasted 3 years with 3 of us using it shooting thousands of shots. We also shoot a significant amount of broadheads too. Got the 2nd one for X-mas 2 years ago and it's still holding up fine. I don't know of another that would of held up the same.
