broadhead descisions
I was wondering what broadhead would work best for my bow. I am shooting a Hoyt MagnaTec set at 65 lbs that is producing arround 270-280 fps. I was wondering what broadheads would work best for me for deer. I shoot a Carbon Express CX 200 arrow which is a really light arrow. I want to shoot fixed blades but I am worried that my bow is too fast for fixed blades. I also like rocket expandables, but I am really considering switching to a fixed blade broadhead.
The broadheads that I am considering are Rocket Sidewinder and Steelhead 100 Rocky Mtn Snyper 100 Rocky Mtn T 100 ANd the Muzzy 100 grain 3 blade thank you for your help Buckkilla |
RE: broadhead descisions
I use the 100 Tit. And love them, i used to shoot Thunderheads before i just switched, not much Accuracy differance just a little durability, ide go with anything over 1 1/8" Cutting Diameter.

RE: broadhead descisions
Any of the heads you listed should work fine with your setup on deer. Just be sure to tune your bow and shoot straight.

One more to take a look at is the Magnus 100 Grain Stinger (4 Blade), thois is a fixed cut on impact style head with 2 bleeder blades. I also shoot a pretty fast setup, but use 300 CE at 27.5" . Just bought a package of 3 on the Magnus heads and they fly on a frozen rope to the target. I had been using Muzzy 3 blades prior but the Magnus out pentrated and was much sharper out of the package (also a snap to resharpen post practice session and ready for the field) The blades seem very beefy/durable on the Magnus Stinger and the head comes with a lifetime warranty. Replacement blades and bleeders are also available if you choose to replace vs. sharpen.
Just throw more fuel on you fire:D. |
RE: broadhead descisions
I' M SHOOTING A SIMILAR SETUP AS YOURS. IWAS SHOOTING THE CARBON XPRESS 200 FOR 3D. AFTER TALKING TO A TECH. AT C.E, THEY RECOMMENDED GOING TO THE CARBON XPRESS 300 FOR MY HUNTING ARROWS. EVEN WITH AN 85 GRAIN HEAD THEY SAID I WAS UNDERSPINED. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE MAGNUS 100 GR. 4 BLADE STINGERS. THEY IMPACT IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT AS MY FIELD POINTS OUT TO 40YDS. SERIOUSLY, I DIDN' T HAVE TO TOUCH MY SIGHTS. BEST I' VE SHOT SO FAR.

RE: broadhead descisions
I am a big fan of steelforce premium 100' s, and if I was going to shoot a super fast rig I would probably be an even bigger fan. I don' t think there is fixed blade or replaceable head out there that flies any better. They go for about 21 bucks for a three pack, but if you have any buddies that have some, try one on your rig and I bet you will be impressed.

RE: broadhead descisions
I didn' t have as good of luck with the steelforces (They still LOOK nasty [>:] )
For accuracy, AND penetration, I' ve not found better than the Slick tricks ( www.slicktrick.net ) but I have yet to test the G5 Montec. |
RE: broadhead descisions
Well after having a supplier issue with the Magnus Stinger I mentioned, I just tried out the Steelforce 100gr Premium 2 blades and i am impressed. They group right with my FP' s out to 45 yards and they are some sharp to boot. I am shooting a light fast arrow and think these would be an excellent choice as well.

RE: broadhead descisions
I use the Steelforce Titanium 85 gr. and love them. They are a little pricey, but worth it when the shot is at the buck of a lifetime. What' s a couple of bucks extra when most of our rig' s are worth hundreds of dollars. It' s kinda like driving a Ferrarri with crappy tires on it. JMHO...JDinAB

RE: broadhead descisions
I am hearing good things about the G5' s I have them but have not had time to shoot yet, but they are a Very Heavy blade. I think they are going to be GREAT!! I will get back with the details...
