Upgrading to Z7

Fairly new to archery and to forum. It's another Z7 question. I currently have an older Matthews model FX2. Bought it off an uncle for $200 two years ago. Was very close to taking a doe with it, but never had an actual kill with it. It's time for an upgrade and I was looking back towards Matthews latest. If I were to upgrade to something like a Z7 what would I expect to change from the FX2 besides a $5-600 gap? My knowledge in bow/arrow is still limited as my expertise lies in firearms and ammunitions. I've been reading a few reviews on it and the Z7 looks promising, but with my lack of knowledge I wouldn't really know what to expect. I'd really rather ask before investing in such a product. Toss anything at me. Thanks forum!

You'll get a less forgiving bow (brace height 7.0 vs 7.5)
Gain in speed difference is about 20 fps - you have plenty now to put down a whitetail
Shorter ATA by 4"
The Z7 makes much less noise than what you have today
The ability to say you have the latest and greatest from Mathews

IMO I'd keep what you have until you get more comfortable with the bow in general. You have a good bow that will do the job just fine with a well placed shot. It's all up to you and what your priorities are, but consider that the new bows will be out soon and leftovers will be a little cheaper.

Yes, the FX2 has been treating me well, but all I've been shooting at is my block target. With three shots there always seems to be a flyer and I will only get the expected shot I'm looking for 1 out of 3 arrows. And all this is only at 30-35 yards. Anything past that I wouldn't trust with this bow. This was obviously not tuned to my specifications except for the weight of pull. I was going to take it to an archery specialists to assist me, but thought I'd be better off investing in something that's more up to date.

I thought the FX2 was quiet, but then again, I only know so much about bows. I need something that is consistant.

Your bow has just as much, if not more inherent ability to be consistant than the Z7. In the archery world, most of the newer bows are actually becoming harder to shoot than the older ones...

Seems the problem is me then. With age, poor vision creeps up on ya. But even though that's the case, something that is improved in all categories by THAT much I would probably take my chances. My uncle sold me this because he upgraded to another Matthews. Seems I'm following his step :s4:

I must find a pro shop around me and give it a go first. Sometimes a bad idea, cuz like most of us I assume, will make decisions we wouldn't otherwise.

Buying a new bow is not necessarily upgrading. Quite a few of the older models will outshoot the new, "HOT" bows.

There's only so much you can change about simplicity and perfection until a new innovation is created. But I won't wait that long to see what's in store for the future.

I'm currently using my FX2 and maybe have the opportunity to walk the woods with something else before gun season hits.
