Just bought g5 montecs

Waiting for them to get shipped here now. Hope that I like them. I got tired of replacing blades and such. Wanted to stick with the fixed blade too. Anyone who shoots them and has any tips/comments etc for them would be appreciated. Thanks

I shoot the CS 100 grain ones with the set up I have in my signature. Very accurate.

My only suggestion would be to purchase the following for sharpening.

two sided diamond stone with 600gr and 1200gr ($30 for G5 $55 for DMT)
Strop ($7)
Yellow stone stropping compound ($6)

I have tried every sharpening method known to man for these heads and using this method.

They are shaving sharp and ready to hunt. The last deer I shot was in the chest strainght on at 20, the arrow exited the rear ham and did not go far. They are a great head, now go forth and kill stuff.

You definitely need to ensure they are sharp when you open them. Mine are a few years old but weren't very sharp and had to spend time sharpening them. Not something you should have to do right out of the box. Generally a great constructed head and I still shoot them.

The Montecs are a great head however being tired of replacing blades is not a great reason for getting them. Instead of replacing blades, you will now be replacing the entire head if you ding a blade or bugger up the tip.

I shot them for 6 years and was extremely happy with their overall consistency and performance, however I have a box full of heads that are now exclusively practice heads. Some have the point knocked off, some have dinged blades, etc.... Terminal performance on animals is great but the heads will often get dinged beyond reuse by hitting rocks and such, after, the pass thru.
