Thunderheads. Ive shot lots of broadheads over the last 28 years, but I always go back to Thunderheads. I tried Muzzy back when the were the new big thing, Ive tried Rage's, G5s, all of them are good, but, for one reason or another I always go back to Thunderheads.

kateraxl2381 08-18-2010 08:54 AM

Grim Reapers Razorcuts...fly no different than a field point and are devastating to a whitetail..have the trocar bonecrusher tip that ensures good penetration..shot 7 deer last year (watched 5 of the 7 fall, all within 100 yards, with 6 of the 7 pass throughs)and the the only that didnt pass was a doe that was hit in the spine

Mine would be a GrizzTrick 100 Grain. Just like a Slick Trick only a larger cut. I'm surprised no one has mentioned them.

vipermike98 08-24-2010 11:35 AM

G5 Montec - 100 grains. These broad heads go through things, like bone, and remain in one piece. I have used one broad to harvest four whitetail deer without sharpening. I would love to hear about another that would do the same.

Cheers!

I just noticed that you shoot a Bowtech General. Please use caution with that bow. That was my first purchase and it almost put an arrow through my arm due to cam separation. The string was cut by the separated cam and put four large cuts into my arm.

Also, that bow was recalled due to limb design. Rumor has it that the recall was due to a man in California taking a piece of limb to the skull and causing death. I just do not want to see a hunter hurt by a product.

bowhunter5.901 08-24-2010 01:48 PM

G5 Montec's, they are virtually indistructable.

No worries, I have new limbs anyway. What I know about the recall is defect in the limbs at the tip and occurred in only 1% of those sold and they sold many. I actually shot mine for one full deer season before I replaced the limbs (my choice BTW) and I'm still here. Bowtech takes care of their customers (they did me) and that is what is important.

Good hunting this year! Now back to the question, snyone else using GrizzTricks?

Now back to the question, snyone else using GrizzTricks?
I used the Grizz tricks last season and will be going back to the ST magnums this year. Overall I like the performance of the magnums better than the grizztricks.

I have tested the toughness of broadheads by shooting them into concrete and wa able to shoot the same Slick trick magnum, 125 grain, into a cinder block 4 times and aside from dinged up blades and dull tip it was perfectly reusable again and still straight. None of the other dozen or so broadheads, including the G5 montec, were shootable again after a single shot.

sprintflyer 08-26-2010 09:06 PM

See signature below. I have shot Rocket Steelheads A few seasons during my expandable days and they worked well for me. Muzzy just "fit" with what I want from my equipment.

thedinguskhan 08-28-2010 09:03 AM

G5 Tekan; Nothing else compares!

I worked for years as an equipment tester for BOWHUNTING magazine and have had the honor of testing every single broadhead that was mentioned here.

I took the advice of another hunter last year and he offered me a G5 Tekan to try out.

I shot an 11 pointer that very day @ 37.5 yards, and I have never seen a broadhead do what that thing did!

Pass through at that range, almost severed the entire heart in half!

He took all of about six steps, turned a 180 and then made a short huff noise and fell dead.

In my opinion, the shot placement was critical, the arrow did its job, but the G5 Tekan did the rest!

GRIZZLYMAN 08-30-2010 07:11 AM

I'm trying the Grizztricks this year. I also have some NAP Nightmares from last year that I'll use, that group right with my Grizztricks all the way out to 40 yards. Both have 1 1/4" cuts and that is what I'm interested in.

Chamois 08-30-2010 09:55 AM

G5 Montec for me... Accurancy & penetration. Even for long distances shots.
Mechanicals are still prohibited in France...

I think you'll like them. They have perfomed very well for me. I shot a 235 buck lst year in Illinois that net a complete pass thru 'almost' end to end on the animal. He ran 60 yds and piled up. Of course, many good heads out there that with that shot placement would do well. But I imagine Ill shot a couple more with this head! Good hunting!

DougE 09-01-2010 05:16 AM

I've been using regular slicktricks long before they were a popular main stream broadhead.I see no reason to ever change.Last year I bought a pack of grizztricks just to try. They're a good broadhead and I killed three deer with them with no issues. They penetrated well, held together and were just as easy to tune. However, people get way to hung up on big gaping wounds. The deer I've killed with grizztricks and huge mechanicals didn't die any faster than the ones I killed with traditional broadheads or regular slicktricks.I've killed well over 30 deer with regular slick tricks and only one made it out of sight.I get full penetration every time and have used the same head on 4 different deer and a gobbler one year.I can't say for sure but I'm almost positive that I've most likely used that same head to kill several more.It doesn't get any better than that.

jermelott 09-03-2010 08:06 AM

I have shot deer with the exact same result with Thunderhead, rocket 3 blade 85 grain tip, rocket mini blasters 100, rocket hamerhead 100, muzzy 3 blade 100, and now rage 3 blade. I think it is ALL opinionated, a well placed shot with any decent broadhead on the market will do the job. Well, this coming from someone who is paying $40.00 for three heads. Might try slick tricks next year.

Kathwacckkk 09-03-2010 11:04 AM

Muzzy 4 blade 100 grain.

When a switched from mech.'s a couple years ago they were strong, cheap, and came with practice blades. I can hit a beer can at 60 yards with them. No reason to change. That being said, my favorite broadhead is the one that hits the boiler room everytime.

Pat Curtis 09-04-2010 04:29 PM

I hated the old G5 Tekkens. Actually I hate any broadhead that has 0-rings. I remember a windy day my bow was rocking on the arrow rest....and the blades kept sliding down and into position. Junk.

Tried Rage 2-Blades last year...had a few annoying issues with the blades coming off the O-ring. It's just a huge pet peeve of mine.

So I went back with NAP Spitfire's. I've used the XP's for years and years. This year I'm trying the Spitfire MAXX broadhead. It's like the XP but with a larger cutting diameter.

*twodogs* 09-04-2010 06:04 PM

Steel Force Phat head. Durable, cut on contact that fly to the same spot as my field points. Has replaceable blades if you ever need them. Blades stay sharp for a long long time, easy to sharpen but, the company will resharpen for free during off season, you just pay shipping

Sniper151 09-08-2010 05:59 AM

NAP Thunderheads 125 gr. No tuning problems, accurate, extremely strong, well made, reliable and have never left me down on any game I have used them on. Confidence right out of the box.

stuckinthereeds 09-09-2010 07:20 AM

Whichever one kills the critters.

Country Dad 09-10-2010 01:44 PM

Trying the Blood runners this year

Dirt Dawg 09-10-2010 08:02 PM

G5 striker 100 grain.

sprintflyer 09-11-2010 09:56 PM

Still shooting my Muzzys but those Rage 2 blades punch an awsome hole! Thinking about giving them a try this year. No complaints with Muzzy tho just looking kinda. My muzzys have killed 20 deer or more for me over the years. Not the same head each time of coarse so it will be tough to give them up!

DannyD 09-16-2010 11:21 AM

NAP Hellrazor 100g. Very sharp, durable, and flies great

Western MA Hunter 09-22-2010 08:56 AM

Shot a bear last week w/ the NAP Spitfire Maxx... all I can say is wow... what a hurting this bh put on the bear... huge entry and exit hole w/ a severe quartering away angle... performed flawlessly... BH in perfect shape after shot too.

Tatter 09-23-2010 07:48 PM

Magnus Buzzcuts 100 grain...lifetime warranty and gets the job done.

loanstarhunter 09-24-2010 06:49 AM

I really enjoy shooting the Rocky Mtn Gator XP (now marketed by Bass Pro as Redhead Gator) This is a simple design.

wvnimrod 09-24-2010 12:31 PM

Muzzy 100gr 3 blade, great broadhead and you can get 6 for under $40 bucks!

PY Antlers 09-25-2010 05:01 AM

The G5 Montec is the head I have been shooting for the last 5 years. Very tough broadhead, have shot several deer with the same one after resharping.

ModestBuck 09-28-2010 05:23 AM

Muzzy 100 grain. They provide practice blades. They are tough and reliable.

Primitive Weapon 09-28-2010 09:38 AM

Any have any experience with the Reign Broadhead?

Muzzy is the worst broadhead ever made besides rage. I cant figure out why so many people like them. They leave no blood trails. I really like the Buck Blaster Attachment 12403 It leaves very bloddy blood trails.

:lolabove:haha yea really, there are to many muzzy fans on here to let that go! and genesis have you ever thought it could be u and not the broad head ? of corse if you hit a deer to far back and hit guts or something your not gonna have a good blood trail...or if you dont get a pass through and your arrow shaft is clogging up the hole...plus if you stuck that bh into the heart and lungs where ur supposed to hit a deer you wouldnt need to use a blood trail to find the deer cause it would be dead bout 40yards from wheere you shot it. its all about shot placement for any bh that you use. about half the people on here that posted said some form of muzzys being there favorite. that many people wouldnt shoot them if they were crap, imo, but anyways back to what this was about... i shoot vortex pro extreme 100gr. 2 1/2" cutting diameter of massive devistation!!!!!!

Bradkoz 10-03-2010 05:53 PM

rocket steelhead 100- 12-13 years(ever since i got my free one in mail) ,3+ deer/year, no issues, fly great, pass thru 80-90% /even on heavy bone

rynigner 10-04-2010 11:37 AM

2-Blade Rage fan here for deer. I know people have had their issues with them, but I keep an close eye on my o-rings and have had ZERO issues.

Snood Slapper 10-04-2010 05:51 PM

Innerloc. Solid heads, very sharp out of the box, perfect machining, and the most configuration of any head on the market. Never have failed me.

Hmmmm I have to disagree with you on that, my G5 T3's might have you beat.

Doubled 150 10-07-2010 09:55 AM

Got my first kill with the G5 Striker on Sunday.

Shot an adult doe at 5 steps of my tree. Unfortunately, I didn't aim low enough and hit her in the spine. However, I blew through the spine, through one lung and out the ribs. The blades were chipped and bent, but the head itself was unharmed. I put some replacement blades on it and brand new.

I really like these heads. I could be a Striker guy for life.

live2hunt009 10-07-2010 12:07 PM

I am a Grim Reaper fan. Penetration is unmatchable by any other expandable.
