Wich Bow Would You Buy??? Help!!!

My father is looking to upgrade his bow this year.... He is 60 yrs old (in great shape) and has gotten into bow hunting over the past five years. This will be his first "new, nice" bow. Looking to stay under $550-600 dollars. Would not mind getting last years model either. He shoot a 29" draw and 60lbs. Thanks for you help and suggestions.

I have a feeling that if I put my 2008 Diamond Liberty (60 pounds) in your dad's hands for even one shot, I'd have to wrestle him to get it back.

There are still plenty of them out there, too, and should be available for well under $500 bare bow.

take a look at the Diamond Black ice....one of the best out there for a smooth draw and good bow...my brother has shoulder problems and my 101st Airborne set at 65 lbs he cant even break it over.....but the ice he can handle very well....if i was looking for smooth, quiet and a good reliable bow look at the Diamond Black Ice

I will second the Diamond Blackice! In my opinion, one of the smoothest single cam bow on the market! I have mine set at 65# and it is easy.. Get him a 60# bow. He will love it!

Martin Firecat all day long same price and faster! I would put my Firecat up against a black ice any day of the week and if you want even fast warthog can do the trick .

Looks like I'm going to be the only guy recommending a Mathews.:D Find him a NIB Switchback XT or Drenlin DXT and I'm betting he'd be happy.

I second the Mathews bow recommendation. Regardless of what bow you buy, I'd get one off of Ebay. You could get a top of the line bow that is a year or two old for that price.

My local shop here in Missouri is selling leftover Bowtech Generals for $599.00. Considering it was bow of the year last year thats a heck of a deal. I would say a guy could find something in the Mission line for the price he is looking for.

Personally I am shooting a Bear showdown; I was looking to stay in the 500 dollar range after all my arrows, sight, rest, quiver, release, ect... I went with the showdown for the price and I really like it. On the other hand if I was just buying a bow for 500 dollars I think I would go with the diamond rock or maybe the bear done deal!!!

I wouldn't overlook the Ross Carnivore. It is available in A to A's of 31, 34, and 37.

A Super Hunting bow to say the least!

My 31 and 34 have both drawn blood already.;)

Mathews DXT, S2, or Hyperlight. Also, I hate to say it but, the Hoyt Alpha Max is one heck of smooth draw.

First go to a pro one in your area which is recommended highly. He will set you up witha bow that fits!!! That is the most important issue, then shoot several bow, find one you shoot well and suits the purpose you intend on using it for..

not all bowcompanys can be trusted

RE: Wich Bow Would You Buy??? Help!!!

ok , let me rephrase that, most well known bow companys are reliable (bowtech, mathews, hoyt, bear, ross, pse, etc.)

The Diamond Stud would be a good choice or the Black Ice but the Black Ice may be more than your budget.

Check ebay or other similar options for a used Mathews...could find one set up nicely for that price...I'd prefer a used Mathews over most other new bows.

I will say this.
For an older fellow, I would avoid the stud or justice. very smooth, but still pretty fast break over for a single cam.
The matthews, price range is just high. and gotta love that draw
I am actually for once gonna second the Martin. those bows are soo smooth and easy to shoot
same with the ross. if you guys havnt shot em, check em out, they are a really neat bow.
I know you said he is in good shape, but it would be a shame if he had to stop bow hunting 4 years down the road after something like arthritis decides to get to work. better to be on the safe side.

Check out an Oneida bow. They are the smoothest bows to draw. Once he shoots one, he`ll be hooked!

I never could stand Oneida bows. Too much stuff moving like limbs for me to like them.

As stated I really like the ROSS's...but since shooting the Warthog, I might have to add
...it's one nice bow...can't go wrong with Martin

RE: Wich Bow Would You Buy??? Help!!!

Recommending a certain bow is a good starting point, but only your dad can decide if it's the bow for him. Go to a proshop and shoot several bows. Decide wich is the most comfortable and buy that one. Might be a bowtech, or mathews, or hoyt, or etc etc etc. What i think is comfortable and nice to shoot (see below) other people thinks i a worthless pile of scrap, and visa vera.

Good luck

Oneidas will be the smoothest out there I agree.

But I disagree with Oneidaeaglebows.net they will mislead and over charge do your research before buy anything from Joe! Lyle your statements could not be further from the truth:For great sales/service go to http://www.oneidabows.net/

AfterLife 08-19-2009 12:49 PM

best one is the one that he likes and feels the best to him after shooting all of them

HooSIER|Hunter 09-10-2009 01:04 PM

Just buy a HOYT

wapitibull375 09-11-2009 02:58 PM

You go out and buy Bow-X because Tom T. says it's the best. You get home and find out that Box-X isn't the best, because Bob B and Jon J say it isn't! They say it crappy and that Bow-R is really really really the best!
If you or your father are interested in a bow, than go out and stop at a few pro-shops. Try as many as you can and talk with the pro-shop personal. You might like one of the pro-shops a lot better than any of the others, usually happens that way. Then focus on the bows they sell and see which fits you the best. Your the one shooting the bow! So what if Bow-K fits and feels the best for you and shoots great too, and all your buddies shoot Bow-Z. Big deal! You got the best one for you, now go out and have some fun with it.

Whitetailaddict13 09-23-2009 06:28 PM

PSE is known for making quality bows at an affordable price. Have a look at the new Bow Madness. One heck of a bow, slick. I think it goes for 5 and some change somewhere around there.

OneBadBowhunter 09-23-2009 07:39 PM

I agree with the Martin Firecat.

LKNCHOPPERS 09-30-2009 07:50 AM

So what did he end up getting and what bows did he try?

jeremyjms06 11-10-2009 06:15 AM

well if he's still looking I gotta throw my 2 cents in and reccomend a Fred Bear Lights Out..... I've owned a Matthews SwitchBack and a PSE DiamondBack and both were great bows but my Lights Out is smoother, quieter, and seems to be a little more forgiving...... you cant even hear that bow. It's not as fast as my old Switchback but its still flinging arrows at over 300fps...... and thats more than enough

3Children 11-10-2009 07:06 AM

Opinions, what they sell or what they own! I will tell you there is a lot of bows out there, and the thing that I like best is when I go to the Archery Trade Show I get to try them all! I think he needs to do that also, Parker is one of the only companies that stepped up to the plate and said, forget about speed lets make an E-Z draw cam for our bow. Find a pro shop that you like and let him shoot the different bows he has, and get the one that feels the best.

deerhunter518 11-10-2009 07:39 AM

i like the bowtech tomcat you can findem for about $450-$500 here in Nor Cal

diamondrack 12-04-2009 01:49 PM

The diamond black ice is a great bow for someone at that age, my dad loves his.. I also think if you can find a bowtech general or mathews DXT for a decent prize (500-600) that would be a steal.. I would 100% stay away from the Mathews Switchback because your father isn't going to like that type of draw..
