Rage Broad heads
I had a chance to shoot the Rage Broad heads over the weekend and I will say that they are the worst invention ever. Never again will they go on any arrow of mine...

i'd like to give them a try but i shoot out of a ground blind with the mesh windows.
I'd like to know what he felt was not good about them though |
RE: Rage Broad heads
alright alright, this thread didnt BLOW UP like I thought it would. I did try them for the first time and they ARE going to be my go to broad head this year. I just figured since I am stuck in the office for a couple more days until season opens this Saturday that I would post something negative about Rage and have a bunch of people complain about it!! Just trying to rustle some feathers since I CANT WAIT to try them out on some venison this weekend!!!

RE: Rage Broad heads
I've posted on this subject on other threads. Personally, I have had two situations where rage 2 blades didn't open up on entry, nor pass through, leaving a only tiny entry hole. One buck recovered, one shot 3 weeks later during gun season by a neighbor (156" double drop tine!). I hope you all have better luck. Slick Tricks now tip my arrows.

RE: Rage Broad heads
the biggest problems i haave heard of so far is the blades hanging down when people are stalking. i did about a 1/2 mile spot and stalk today after the morning huntand didnt have an issue. my biggest trouble was the leafy suit getting caught on all of the barbs and brush;)

RE: Rage Broad heads
I've had the blades open up a few times when they weren't supposed to. But they worked when I needed them to.
I'm going back to the muzzy's this year, but I would have no problem sticking with the Rage if I had more of them. |
RE: Rage Broad heads
I have recently purchased the rage 2 blade broad heads.
1. If they pre open on you it is because you need to rotate the little o-ring that keeps it closed 1/8 to 1/4 turn. The edge of the o ring has been pinched by the blade and it needs a fresh spot on the ring to hold the blade. 2. They do fly like my field points. 3. Needless to say they take a little usage of the brain to understand how they will work for you. So to bash them because they look kind of floppy when messing with them in your hand. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Also the other blades i use is the Tight Point Shuttle T-Lock Broadhead. This is also a nice solid broadhead and flys very close to field points. |
RE: Rage Broad heads
It also takes some brain to see how it is possible that they would not work. Either way, I guessyou have to use your brain.;)

RE: Rage Broad heads
Istick a small orthodontic rubber band on them for a litte reassurance. I don't know that its necessary, but I've yet to have one open prematurely. And I've yet to have one not fully open on entry.
Although, I now use Rocky Mnt Snypers, because they have thicker blades, sharper cut on contact blades, and are a lot less expensive. I picked up a 3 pack of the 2 blade snypers from Bass Pro for $21. |
RE: Rage Broad heads
I kinda like the T-Lock Shuttle heads "Tight Point" as well. Altho they are a small broadhead they fly like my filed points like rage 2 blade does.
I am willing to try Grim reaper heads some time and maybe this 2 blade snypers you speak of brian |
RE: Rage Broad heads
The rage 2 blade broadhead makes a huge hole in whatever you shoot with them. Shot a doe in MD this year and i got a 3" entrance and exit wounds when the doe was completely broadside. Cant ask for much more than that.

RE: Rage Broad heads
I love my rage 2 blades, what sold them for me was a local archery shop owner showed me video of his Bison hunt that he used them on and that big Bison was hit, down and dead in about 20 seconds

RE: Rage Broad heads
I will be trying the Rage 2 blades for the first time this season. I am looking forward to putting one of those infamous holes in the first thing that walks by...

RE: Rage Broad heads
Tried them today for first time--actually the 3 blade.
Was very impressed with how they flew. Shpt pretty much side by side to fieldpoints. Wish knowI had purchased another pack. |

RE: Rage Broad heads
OK guys i talked to rage over the phone, for any of you who like the rage blades. There is good news and bad.
The bad news is, the newest models of the rage 2 blade is the one with the roll pin in them. And these are the ones that fall apart after hitting bone because it closes the gap on the roll pin. If yours has a screw, this is the older models. The replacement blades come with screws and roll pins. Good news is rage is aware of this problem and they are working to correct it. Also, if you want you can send any broadhead back to them and they will replace it for free. Doe not matter where you purchased it from. So the real question is, how much will you deal with to get a serious cut in the animal you hunt? Tips: Roll pins, closing up and dropping out issue. You can take a center punch to the end of the roll pin to flare it just a bit so if the slot closes off it will not fall out. Screws: If you strip out the hole, the replacement blade packs have pins and screws. So use a roll pin in it after you get a strip screw and use center punch to flare the ends of it. This is a small fix i found that works for now. and you can still change blades later by using a small drive punch to get the roll pins out after you have flared them. Well, thats all we got guys and gals, until rage corrects the problem somehow. |
RE: Rage Broad heads
In the past two weeks I've been asked to help track two bucks shot with Rage 2 blades by two different guys, we couldn't find either of them. I can't speak for the shots as I never saw them, but one was a pass through from lung to liver, the second was straight into the shoulder with very limited penetration (he guessed 2-3 inches) we never found the arrow.
The first had very limited blood from the start (we waited 4 hours), we made it about 300 yards to an alfalfa field and lost the track he only stopped 2x and never laid down. Three other guys went back and did a grid the next day. I believe this was a non-fatal shot, so the broadhead was possibly not to blame. The second had great blood (lung)for about 80 yards, then just specks here and there. Ended up going about 1 1/2 miles over two days on this sparse track. He crossed a beanfield that had been cut during our search. Gridding on the other side brought nothing. Bad shots? Coincidence? Bows not tuned properly? I'm not sure, but it does not improve my confidence that this is a great head like some report. I think the inherent accuracy of this (and similar mechanicals) allows some hunters with poorly tuned bows to shoot where their field points are going, but the arrow isn't traveling straight. Thoughts? |
RE: Rage Broad heads
I dont think pourly tuned bows are the answer to how the heads fly.
In bow hunting mag, they tested 16 or 18 broad heads and mechanicals. The rage was the only one they commented on saying "they do fly like field tips" So, in reading this i tested it was well. They do fly like my field points. But this doesnt mean it will do the same on others bows. Only thing i see so far with these heads is the roll pin holding the blade gets lose and falls out making the blades fall off. But can easily be fixed by flaring the ends of the pin. Course we should not have to do this in the first place. I seriously will deal with this small issue just to see how nice of a cut i can get in a deer. |
RE: Rage Broad heads
I was hoping these thing would work because they fly so well. Got a new bow and it at 65# 305FPS so I was not sure on how the Muzzys would fly.
So I got the Rage bug, Now Im pissed shot a 6pt buck last night, hit high but still should have done the job, roll bin broke on impact.[:@]found one of the blades on the ground with hair but no blood, arrow past all through.Tracked a drip drip blood trail for about 100yds. then dried up. Looked for the deer 3 1/2 hours last night and 4 hours this morning, Im sick and pissed, a lost 4 hours of work, and no deer. Does anyone have the e-mail address? |
