BIG GAME AND BROADHEADS

Should I use a cut on contact type broadhead or a fixed blade for caribou size game?
Does it really matter or is it personal preference? I've shot both out of my bow and both fly great.

It really depends on your bow and the amount of energy it is producing. If your shooting a 45lbs recurve I would say deffinetly use a 2 blade cut on contact. If your shooting a modern compound bow at 60+ Lbs of draw weight you can shoot what ever head you want. Another factor that comes into play is your arrow weight, KE, momentum all of those effect your penetration potential as well as head design.

Larger for me = fixed...I use mechanicals (Spitfire 125's) for hogs...but for something like that I would have to use my Magnus Snuffer 125's...JMO

Never hunted caribou, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the shot opportunities maybe on the longer side in windy conditions. A low profile fixed head like theRockyMt.Blitzor a quality mechanical might be the ticket.

Oh, I'm sorry. You asked what broadhead you should use on caribou-sized game, not just for hunting caribou. My apologies, duh:eek:

If you are going with an outfitter, make sure you check with them first. Some outfitters only allow fixed blade heads. Others do not care. But honestly if it was me I would use a nice cut on contact head.
